Last night (before your other posts) I decided to turn wifi off.  I usually don't do this.  I was really tired last nght and didn't want to be torn whether to read an email that came in so I thought easiest thing was to remove the temptation i.e. turn wifi off.

I had 1% battery drain last night just a little over 7 hours.  Now that's impressive.

Weird - that's entirely normal for me on stock Vodafone JP3 - my wifi sleep policy is set to sleep when screen is off, and it doesn't ever drain more that 1% overnight?

Shrapnel: It all seems a little complicated, I may consider it. We'll see, man everyone replies fast here

Ha ha yes, there is quite a steep learning curve with all of this, but if I were you, I'd do the following:

- Root your phone so Titanium Backup works
- Backup all your apps with the above
- Backup your APN's/SMS/Call logs with the various apps by Ritesh Sahu (free, and simple to use)
- Backup /efs as discussed

If you already have the 2e recovery mode (my Vodafone Eclair ROM did), just apply the voodoo lagfix from there.

If you don't, or you're ready to move to 2.2, I'd use Odin to flash the i9000T Froyo, and then use Odin to install the Voodoo Froyo kernel (pm Supercurio to confirm this works).

I'm really considering this now, too much lagging and to many force closes, I've had enough. So if I flash a custom 2.2 rom I dont need to flash the official one first right?, and would you guys reccommend the official telecom froyo with lagfix or another custom rom, want something that I fast and rock solid.
Thanks pl

When I use the sleep policy I find when the phone wakes up it goes straight to mobile data and then flicks onto Wifi.  Wifi is on all the time at home so I'm not sue why it connects first to mobile data.  But it annoys me which is why I've not used this setting.

if you use JuiceDefender you can set a Prefer Wifi option which disables 3g for 10s upon waking the phone up to allow the Wifi time to reconnect.

That would make sense, as your router has to authenticate the WPA key on your SGS every time it connects.  Mine reconnects in a few seconds.

I'm sure there's an app for that. . . :-D

Is the overnight drain related to sloppy app programming that ignores sleep state and keeps running in the background?

If there are straws to be grasped at, I shall grasp. . . .

You can look at battery statistics that show partial wake usage and can give you a clue as to what is using your battery up.

I installed another beta Doc rom last night and chose trasig's Advanced Voodoo - which is v666.
Anyway, went to bed with 92% battery and left Wifi on because I wanted to see how badly it performed.  There had been comments on the thread about how quickly the battery was draining.  Though I think many were trying out the improved sound quality and listening to music.

Anyway, to my shock, I woke almost 8 hours later and the battery was 91%.  Being the Thomas that I am, I had to check two different apps that display the battery status and sure enough, everything was reading 91%.

Fricken amazing!

Just in case anyone is interested Kies version 2 is available on the NZ website

http://nz.samsungmobile.com/mobile-phones/samsung-galaxy-s-support

I must say it is acually pretty good so far (JPY)
connects in about 10 sec with a totally new look... much more professional.

Samsung may not talk to us, but maybe they quietly listen?

Edit: Make sure you remove the old version first... completely

Hmm I have a odd bug, my phone keeps corrupting itself after about a week, this time I didn't just flash the rom to see if I could fix it, but it looks like things are a bit messed up:

W/ResourceType( 3211): Requesting resource 0x7f0b0000 failed because it is complex
W/PackageManager( 3211): Failure retrieving text 0x7f0b0000 in package com.sec.android.app.twlauncher
W/PackageManager( 3211): android.content.res.Resources$NotFoundException: String resource ID #0x7f0b0000
W/PackageManager( 3211): at android.content.res.Resources.getText(Resources.java:201)
W/PackageManager( 3211): at android.app.ContextImpl$ApplicationPackageManager.getText(ContextImpl.java:2590)

Basically, my phone crashes to a black screen and doesn't do anything forcing me to pull the battery, after a reboot any app I installed from the market force closes. It's bloody annoying.

Going to install the Samsung Stock JPY / Repartition then install a rom I created in the kitchen, hopefully that fixes it.

You guys should take a look at this review of JuiceDefender from lifehacker: http://lifehacker.com/5731561/juicedefender-simplifies-automated-android-battery-saving

Is it just me or is the android market currently down?

sittingduckz: Is it just me or is the android market currently down?

I tried earlier and got a network error.  I tried again, got the same message.  But I was able to synch with AppBrain and use the Internet on my phone so I'm not sure what it's about.  I'm using mobile data at the mo, so thought perhaps there was a connectivity problem.
