nofam: Has anyone else tried the JL2 modem?  Seems to be getting a good write-up?

I see over on XDA that poor Cypher_X's laptop died (knack'd hard drive) while he was flashing with Odin, and has hard-bricked his phone. . . . .Eeeesh! Yell

Oh crap!

Nofam, no have not tried JL2. Although I'm happy with JPY. And yes, saw that this morning. Poor fella.

Other thing I meant to ask was, are you guys having to manually restore APN settings, or are Vodafone/Telecom included in Doc's big APN list?

I'm on 2Degrees and those settings are included. So chances are, Voda and Telecom will also be there. :>

What is JL2?

All there, nothing to add to APN.

A modem type. When choosing a modem in the kitchen it gives you that option. I think it's American. :>

I've been using it for a while now and its been very good. No complaints on call quality, gets a gps lock instantly and its narrowed down to 5 metres after around 10 secs. No issues with reception or wifi.

I'm starting to get problems with my phone.

Keeps on losing reception/service and only way to fix it is to restart the phone.

Running 2.2 stock Froyo on TNZ version. Not cool :(

I keep having problems with my phone (And I am a long-term Android user) - basically the phone will totes loose signal, after a reboot the signal comes back but can't get a data connection, the 3rd reboot and everything is corrupted, force closes galore, have to reflash.

Annoying thing is it happens about once a week, and often happens at the worst possible times (when I am in a phonecall, on the bus, at a mates place etc) - Anyone got anything on this, or what will be causing this to happen?

Never happened to me.  I can't remember if you're Telecom or not.  I've not experienced any problems with phone calls or reception dropping out like the two of you have described.

Have no advice for the Telecom guy apart from this. If your phone is under warranty, I would take it back to the Telecom store and explain the problem.

But Michael, why not do a fresh start. Do a wipe of any custom ROM. It might fix the issue. :>

Successfully updated to Doc's XXJPY 7.9/Hardcore/JPY modem with Gen X theme - was very straight-forward.

A few questions for the guru's thought:

- Has anyone settled on an LCD density setting?
- Do those using the Speedmod kernel activate the startup tweaks?

Someone the other day was talking about apps that are safe to remove.  I mentioned I'd saved a post about what you could remove "safely".  If you've not found the list, here it is.
