nofam: Successfully updated to Doc's XXJPY 7.9/Hardcore/JPY modem with Gen X theme - was very straight-forward.

A few questions for the guru's thought:

- Has anyone settled on an LCD density setting?
- Do those using the Speedmod kernel activate the startup tweaks?

I haven't begun looking into what all the fuss is over LCD density settings.
I'm also not much help with the Speedmod kernel. I'm "stuck" on Trasig. Just trying to wrap my head around how to flash via Odin another kernel or what, I'm now on CWM 3 and there's no update.zip for CWM 3, though Doc has offered to make one tomorrow if I can't find one. And I can't. Looked like Supercurio might have had one, he made a mention of it in Trasig's thread so I've sent him a tweet.

This ended up about me (again)

Download SGS Kernel Flasher from the market, will get you off trasig's kernel.

Download SGS Kernel Flasher from the market, will get you off trasig's kernel.

Someone on Trasig's thread said to put Rom Manager on, pick the CWM and then go to recovery from Rom Manager and then you can flash whatever you like. Might give that a crack. I actually want to put his v666.2 kernel on. I might be able to do that as things are given both are CWM3.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did have a look and I know it's another option. I'll have a crack later. Also want to update to the latest beta version so might go back to a prior v69 kernel so I can flash a new rom.

Flashing a kernel with odin is a piece of cake. It's basically the same as flashing a rom.

I use the startup tweaks with speedmod kernel. Haven't had any problems.

- the lower the better (apparently) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765639

- I did. You need to go into cwr and choose Speedmod advanced options. Choose the ones that are recommended (they will have an "R" next to them), and maybe those that are optional too, up to you.

In the Beta rom kitchen is Trasig's newer kernel's. Just selecting v666.2 now, but I'll have to get off his v666 kernel before I can flash the newly cooked rom.

Yep, had no problems flashing the new rom using CWM3. I wanted to flash the full Gen X theme so I went into recovery using Rom Manager which puts you back into CWM 2.5 and was able to flash the Gen X theme no problem.

So that's handy. The only thing I noticed is that Rom Manager doesn't fully shut off the phone (you know the little haptic vibration you get when you phone is truly OFF) before going into recovery.

Never happened to me. I can't remember if you're Telecom or not. I've not experienced any problems with phone calls or reception dropping out like the two of you have described.

Vodafone all the way, or at least for the next month.

Argh, hate taking my phone in for repair, I will see if it's fixed this time, if not - then it's back to the store it goes.

Does Vodafone promise the same connection in Northwood as the inner suburbs? I don't know, just checking :) Love the spelling. I've had similar from Adobe support desk, their email etc goes to India and if only they'd run a spell check over their replies, it would make a difference. I sympathise.

Am running Darky's 8.1 Gingerbread Edition ROM which now uses the latest Speedmod Kernel. Gotta say, it's super quick. It's how the Galaxy S should be!
