It's quite close to 1000, it used to nearly be 900. I got the mobile interent working but I can seem to get MMS working. Could you give me a soecific list for the galaxy s(I think it has different listed names). And do you think it is worth flashing that modem? Thanks lofreq

im sure the telecomdefault one is moot, but i dont know for sure. i do know that everything works perfectly.

up to you about the modem, after replacing the JPY modem with the JPA i found battery to be much better, i can only assume it is settling on towers and tuning in more efficiently without so much searching. just an assumption, just from looking at my battery graphs in BatterySnap (free monitoring app)

and with darky's rom, no lagfix, and a no-wipe install (so all non-optimised filesystem etc) im getting about 1250-1300 in quadrant. im hoping this gets a bit better when i wipe the lot and install a clean new build!

Hmmm I don't see how the two are related; Kies connectivity is driver-related - lagfixes are low-level filesystem conversions, so shouldn't affect this at all?

My apologies I wasn't too clear. It recognises the phone, but not any files/data on it. I cannot access anything off it such as photos, contacts and messages or sync with Kies.

I'm assuming with the filesystem conversion run by the lag-fix, Kies cannot access the files in this new format. I could be wrong though.

However removing the lag-fix, I am able to 100% connect my phone to Kies, sync and access my data.

There a mtp.zip file that you can flash (if you've got CWM recovery) that'll see the return of your connectivity with Kies.

Well, I couldn't stand staring at Odin with its little green loading bar so I went for a bike ride, lol :D

LOL. Good choice. Though it wouldn't have taken that long. Then again, my bike rides tend to be 2hours plus.

I'm at the point I can walk away while my phone is being flashed. I used to sit and wait and wait and count the number of "S" animated flashes. My heart would be in my mouth. Now I'm comfortable that if it gets past the white Samsung boot screen and reaches the animated "S" and continues past say 6 animated flashes then it's all good. I can happily walk away and let it do it's thing. But there's a sense of relief when I hear the notification that the battery is fully charged (I flash while the phone is connected to a power source). I'm somewhat brighter after hearing that :-D

I flashed the JPA modem, noticing better signal ny nearly a bar in some places. Once or twice I had sufficient signal but it wouldnt send for a while telling me there was no signal. Seems fine now though.

After installing the CriskeloMOD-XXJPY_I9000TDOJP2_XXJPY, what should I use to root, and should I be installing a lagfix of any sort?

Thanks so much for the quick and easy guide. I had read a fair bit about the flashing process but wasn't sure about which versions of roms to go with, now I have that seperate modem file does that mean I can flash any custom rom, then flash the modem, and have it working correctly on XT?

lokhor: How much does a second hand SGS sell for these days? I'd really like to get a device that has better support and isn't made by Samsung.

I'm heading that way myself.

The Nexus phones are still the Gold Standard for firmware updates in my view. The Nxus One and Nexus S get OTA updates. I saw one happen on my mate's new Nexus S the first time he logged into it.

But the camera on the SGS is so good.....torn.

not sure if you were asking me... im not sure if the criskelomod has builtin superuser and root etc, im still hazy on that area but im sure the others here can nail it for you - i never bothered with lagfix mainly because of the experiences i have heard here and there on compatibility and the phone getting confused with different filesystems etc... i also heard there is no major benefit with lagfixes on 2.2/2.2.1 as much as compared to Eclair 2.1, so overall i havent bothered myself.

and, from my experience, yes basically it seems you can flash any PDA build you want on there, as long as you also flash an appropriate 850mhz modem file its all good... ive done a couple of flashes followed by the JP2 or JPA modems and have always regained full voice/txt/data afterwards... so as far as my experiences, yes indeed :)

Haha, thanks. Well, obviously I'm very pleased, no force closes, lockups restarts etc(yet) which I was having before. Just the ability to use the phone with out it crashing is the best part. The added speed is a bonus. And knowing that official updates are probably only going to make it to 2.3 at the most I was going to have to flash sometimes I suppose. Very much so worth it, thanks to you and all the other guys that helped. Do you think doing a clean wipe helps that much speed wise?

The general consensus on XDA seems to be yes, but the benefit gained from a wipe install is proportionate to the number of non-wipe installs before it; if you're flashing several kernels/ROM's a week for testing etc, then I'd definitely go wipe regularly; it seems to dung out the residue of old flashes that accumulate over time.

If you find it does I may give it a shot, but I'll most likely wait for a while and find a new rom, endless possibilities. Can't wait for a 2.3 rom! :D
