No I used CWM to flash it, so didn't have to use ODIN.

Just downloaded the zip from http://www.multiupload.com/JDCO9KS2C2. Then transfered it to the phone's root.?Boot into CWM and select "install zip from SD card" and then "choose zip from SD card" and find the ROM zip. Flashes and installs from there. Done in like 10mins and worked 100% from there.

Remember to remove all lagfixes etc using CWM before you flash this (luckily I checked mine and indeed there was one applied so removed it). You can also use?DarkyROM Configurator App from the market and configure the ROM BEFORE you flash it. I chose Speedmod kernel again and some neat things like circle battery icon and the boot animation.

Also you WILL lose all your apps/data if you go straight to 9.0.2 so remember to back everything up using TB or whatever you use.

Here's the guide?if you need it?but it's pretty darn simple.?

I dont need to worry about lagfixes, criskelos hasnt got one and I havent applied one before. How do you check anyway?

wazz: You dont actually have to disable the lagfix if the kernel you're movng to supports the same lagfix, like speedmod and voodoo. Have been leaving mine on while flashing for a while now without any issues.

Go into CWM, then ULK something, then select the lagfix option and you can check there which ones are applied. But as wazz pointed out it doesn't matter as both voodoo and speedmod use the same lagfix so you should be sweet.

All the problems you describe are not part of anyone elses experiences with their SGS - except the lag, which has a very successful fix.

I have read some of the other replies to this message, and I would like to offer you a more balanced response.

The stock SGS os is a rather mediocre effort, but having said that many millions are happy with it. I have a friend who runs stock, and he is fine with it. It doesn't lag for him (vodafone nz, 2.1.1 IIRC) and he finds touchwiz ok. He has NONE of your problems.

I have an SGS, upgraded and modded to hell and back. Twice. I doubt there is a hack I haven't tried, or a rom i haven't flashed. I did the same with my previous smart phones, going back 5 years or more and starting with the HTC Apache.
Previously, I had a HTC Desire - contemporary with the SGS, but I liked my friends sgs more, so I bought one too. I haven't regretted it.
My sgs runs like a cut cat. Greased lightening is left in the dust. I use about 6% battery in a 10 hour period.

Best phone I have ever owned.

My point is this: yes, indeed, your phone is faulty. There are two solutions:

1. Send it back to an official repair center. It should be under warranty. Wait around a few weeks...

2. Read up on XDA and flash a custom rom. That'll probably fix your problems right there, if done right. Not sure if that battery problem is a hardware fault though - did it happen AFTER the upgrade?

Anyway: sorry if I sounded a bit harsh. You were in trouble, needing facts and help - not platitudes. I hope I've done that - along with the others here.

I agree with Brendan, I was running mine stock for several weeks and I was still impressed. Although I had no noticeable lag just the occasional hiccup. The GPS was a little weak indoors.

My main battery issue has been the wifi sleep policy, once that is changed the battery is fine.

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

Which method is the most successful to get root access. I have tried temporary root using z4root. When I go to copy or view the \efs folder I havent been able to view/copy the folder. Any ideas?
Does the version of Odin make a difference when it comes to flashing Speedmod Kernel, some of the guides mention version 1.3 and others mention version 1.52.
I now I need to get root access, copy the \efs folder, flash speedmod kernel to get 2e recovery, then look at cooking a new rom via the rom kitchen and installing the new rom via CWM....

I think there is a method of rooting called Super One Click that doesn't require flashing a new kernel. You could just flash the speedmod kernel via odin and then copy the efs folder.

btw on a side note what modem are you voda/2degrees people using?

Agreed - SuperOneClick always works perfectly for me, but flashing something like Speedmod makes more sense, it comes pre-rooted (just download Superuser from the market), and also has 2e recovery inbuilt.

I'm using the JPY modem and it's fine - good, quick GPS lock, call quality is good - really clear & loud, Wifi range is WAY better than the stock JP2, and wifi drain over night (switched off when screen is off) is about 4%.

Might try the JL2 modem next, but really, I can't see it being any better.

isnt that also because JL2 modem is optimised for 850mhz ie not 2degrees/voda...?

When I tried to copy the efs I had to use Root Explorer off the market as others told me, its paid but I couldn't view it with anything else. Hope this helps

hey all, so finally started getting into the flashing thing, so i'm trying to use ROM manager to flash a ROM cooked up in the kitchen but my I9000 just won't see the .zip file on my sd card any ideas?
