ventolin: hey all, so finally started getting into the flashing thing, so i'm trying to use ROM manager to flash a ROM cooked up in the kitchen but my I9000 just won't see the .zip file on my sd card any ideas?

That's because you need to reboot into recovery to flash it, vol up + power + home. You on stock atm?

JPY modem is going good. Waaay better than JPA. Had ~3% loss overnight which is a significant change from ~20%.

Just waiting for it to die so I can wipe the battery stats and then should be sweet.

strange you had poor performance on JPA, however i found JPY also mostly worked for the most part

JL2 modem is working for me still, real fast GPS etc like i mentioned... 3% drain overnight, still waiting to discharge it completely tonight and wipe stats and start afresh. im still waiting for darky's builds to get a bit more stable before i wipe the lot and convert to EXT4, at the moment still no lagfix enabled for me, with speeds still way better than stock

nah im not on stock, even in recovery mode it will not see the zip

Apologies if this comes across as a stupid question, but have you actually checked to make sure it's not just on the next page, i.e. have you scrolled down?

It's just that CWM doesn't distinguish visually between directories and files, and as most of Doc's ROMs start with XX. . . etc they're at the end.

Just a thought. . .

yeah what i mean is most people who chose the wipe option for darky's 9.0 rom seem to have come to strife - stuck on boot, no market, no stock apps, missing apps on reboot, rah rah rah - it may be fixed in 9.0.2 supposedly but im not risking it just yet.

as it is i ran the no-wipe version of 9.0.2 and it all works flawlessly... i just have no idea what will happen if i decide to wipe just yet

could be something wrong with my sd card as I can't format it on the phone the option is grayed out

Has anyone else encountered the 50% time without signal bug? I'm not sure how to fix it

are you rural ? i am rural ,this phs the worse i ve had for signal wise (maybe voda could put sum more cell towers up ?of cause its not viable option cost us too much with no return so i ve suffered for 8 years now :( that enough of that rant ) , i ve changed to speed mod kernel seems to be a bit better now....

fallen: Which method is the most successful to get root access. I have tried temporary root using z4root. When I go to copy or view the \efs folder I havent been able to view/copy the folder. Any ideas?
Does the version of Odin make a difference when it comes to flashing Speedmod Kernel, some of the guides mention version 1.3 and others mention version 1.52.
I now I need to get root access, copy the \efs folder, flash speedmod kernel to get 2e recovery, then look at cooking a new rom via the rom kitchen and installing the new rom via CWM....

When I tried to copy the efs I had to use Root Explorer off the market as others told me, its paid but I couldn't view it with anything else. Hope this helps

Thanks. I have Root Explorer installed. I also tried the temporary root option from z4root, and tried to copy/view the efs folder, but no joy. I will try out the Superclick method of getting root access as mentioned in XDA forum

Did you do a full wipe from a different rom or did you already have Darkys v8 or something?

The 50% time without signal bug isn't actually an issue with signal it's just in the Battery Usages under Cell Standby it always shows 50% time without signal and a Time On value that is double what it should be e.g 12hrs when it has only been on 6hrs. . I am unsure if this negatively affects battery life or not though.
