KiwiT: So its clear from your responses that the VF one is ok for VF, but the XT one is better. just out of interest Im understand from your responses that the XT one will work also on VF.

Ill try get me a XT one then......

Thanks. Thats the info I needed to get me the right one.

If your definition of "better" is  fully compatible with XT, then yes! the i9000t(XT version) is a million times better

Itr0nic: My galaxy S I9000T Should be here this week in the next couple of days im just wanting someone to point me into so easy to follow instructions/Videos on installing a custom rom iv seen good things about Darky's rom so that would be good, Any anything else i am missing ?

I will be on telecom XT

Hi Itr0nic.  I think there's a video on the Darky thread on XDA.  I don't use his rom.  And I'm pretty sure there's some videos on YouTube of installing his rom.  I believe Darky also has his own Facebook page.  Perhaps you might get some specific details there.  Though I'm pretty sure there's a couple of bods on this thread on Telecom XT with his rom.  Hopefully they'll have some more specific details to share with you.  And welcome :)

This guide which is linked to the Doc an Stefunel's page is very comprehensive http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926399 and gives you links to all the required files.

The one point that I would stress before you get started with flashing your new custom rom, is to learn how to backup the efs folder on your new phone and put it somewhere safe. Read this http://www.galaxyroot.com/warning-backup-your-efs-folder-before-you-flash/

Also, Sgstools found on the market has a an efs backup function for rooted phones though I have not tried

Thanks for pointing that out.. I had not seen that feature as I haven't used any of the scripts in SGSTools before.. I just tried it now and it does indeed work.. I was not able to find SGSTools on the market though.. I could see SGS Toolbox. What is your secret?

Update - I found the SGSTools.apk and have uploaded it in case anyone else need a copy. http://hotfile.com/dl/101209233/bdd9bd1/SGS_Tools_4.1.9.apk.html

Sorry it was SGS Toolbox, right up the top it has "Create /efs backup ", sorry for the misunderstanding

It is there in SGS Tools.  Select Apply Script.  Then scroll down the page until you find:  backup_efs.q.txt

No the Telecom isnt "better". The Telecom model is 850/2100 3G suited for XT. The Voda model which is the more common international or european model is 900/2100 3g suitable for vodafone or 2degrees.

Quite simply, to save headaches about coverage etc etc

use the telecom i9000 on xt

use the vodafone i9000 on vodafone or 2degrees.

and leave it that.

900/2100 and 850/2100 handsets and their interchangeability on xt and vodafone is widely discussed on here.

Neets: Tonight when I started up the computer I could see a problem with the Internet connection.

Hovering over the icon it said I had excellent signal strength but:
IPv6Connectivity Limited (and same for IPv4).
I had 54.0 Mbps which I think is normal.

I disconnected from the network and reconnected and everything is just fine, but I wondered why it happened.  During the day the computer was in hibernation.  And this has only occurred since I changed from automatic to manual yesterday.  It might be a coincidence of course.

Sorry to open this can of worm on this thread, but wondered if anyone had a quick answer before I go hunting for solutions in Google.  Thanks :)

I would imagine that it is a coincidence. I always run my wireless on a fixed channel and aside from the odd extremely rare windows hickup it's fine..

Restart your computer to check that it is connecting properly.

Think I might drop Telecom when my contract is up simply because it seems a lot easier to get 900/2100 band phones.

The Telecom SGS works on all networks i.e 2Deg, Voda and Telecom whilst the Voda version only works on 2Deg and Voda. Is that correct?

With a Telecom SGS I can pickup Vodafone if I flash a compatible modem. Done that on accident when I was flashing my phone for the first time. I'm not sure what would happen if I put in a Vodafone SIM card, though I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work?

I haven't used a weather widget in donkey's ages.  But I had tried Snowstorm weather widget.  It was fine (no pun intended).  I took it off becuase at that time I think I was being really tight with my mobile data usage.  I find MetService to be the more accurate.  I just go to the website on my phone.

Thanks, might have to start using metservice site. Tell me about mobile data usage, I am frequently buying the national data packs from 2Degrees, might have to start looking at buying the 1GB packs.
