no

2 degrees note 3 does not support 4g. no matter what sim card you put in.

unless you flash either vodafone or telecom firmware

Not true. My 2degrees Note 3 worked fine on Optus 4G (with an Optus SIM) in Australia.

I believe this is specific to Telecom in that most if not all non-Telecom Note 3's are not enabled for Telecom 4G.

I enabled Telecom 4G on my parallel imported handset by modifying the data/property/persisit.radio.lteon.xml file as downgrading to the latest telecom ROM resulted in a softbrick

Don't hold me to is as I don't have first hand experience but I understand that as Vodafone have had 4G enabled for quite some time it is enabled by default in Samsung's default ROM.

Conversely I understand that Telecom specifically requested to have 4G disabled while they were rolling out and trialing the new network and even with a Telecom branded handset an update is required to enable 4G.

exactly this. theres no sinister deliberate "phone locking" scandal going on - it just so happens that Telecom were in the middle of implementing their 4G network and thus the CSC's for telecom tell the phones that 4G should not be enabled, even tho the handsets were physically capable. and a later update changes this to enable it. its simply unfortunate timing. Telecom 4G is still not rolled out nationwide yet, its happening in stages, so until its fully live and all firmwares are updated to toggle-on 4G bands, if you have a non telecom note3 id expect you not to have 4G automatically enabled. its probably not just Galaxy Note 3's but other LTE handsets as well.

to get around this, simply flash a new stock firmware to enable this toggle, but risk tripping knox and voiding your warranty (this means nothing unless your phone legitimately fails in your warranty period and you have to bring it in - otherwise having Knox at 0x1 doesnt hinder you at all - in fact it probably unleashes a wealth of power user tweaks from the community that nonrooted users will never see)

and yes from my reading on XDA, flashing even a legit firmware on your handset can trip knox - from my understanding its not the "type of firmware" you flash that trips it, its the act of flashing in itself. in a rough analogy, its like replacing the 2.0l motor in your toyota with another genuine 2.0l of the same model - its still the exact same specification of motor, but the simple act of opening the hood and replacing the motor, voids toyota's agreement to cover you. which seems fair to me - if an owner really wanted to expand their featureset, i think losing warranty cover is an expected tradeoff. warranty cover is a very blinkered affair which usually supercedes simple logic - mainly to protect the warranty provider. in my view anyway.

pretty good summary for the next few months at least, assuming one does not decide to flash anything new to their 2D Notes.

They run through the details on what can trip KNOX but I have read today that people have managed to flash custom and Samsung Roms to their devices but just not as simple as it use to be directly with the ODIN software.

Root if people want it seems to be an option now too without tripping KNOX.

Hi guys this is probably a silly question but i am going overseas in a few days, i'm going to spoil myself and get a note 3... the place i'm looking at has two types 3g of course and LTE.

I'm just wondering do i need to buy the LTE to get 4G on my note 3?
or can i still pick up 4g with my Vodafone simcard with the 3g capable device?

"The Exynos 5 Octa 3G model" and "Snapdragon 800 4G LTE"

You need the N9005 snapdragon 800 the N9000 Octa model is only 3g.

Good chance it will work on Vodafone 4G as long as the CSC has the latest carrier deals in it otherwise it well be like the 2Degrees note 3 not working on telecom and my parallel imported note 10.1 that seems to have the same issue.

With my UK SIM card both of them detect Vodafone 4G.

Thanks for the reply! i brought my iphone 5 back in hongkong also and it works with no problems on any carrier. i had 2degrees untill i changed to vodafone and now have 4g. so it should be okay.

thanks for the help because this phone business can get very confusing sometimes!
