I've found that the Galaxy does not like a lot of the phone numbers in my Contacts because they have spaces in the formatting. If you try and ring them it works, if you try and text them it does not.

I have not tested my contacts yet.

Maybe it is an Android issue... and not just the Galaxy S8...

Just picked up my S8 from Spark today. Has anyone switched theirs to generic firmware?

Are there any settings similar to the Nexus 6P, Pixel etc where the phone lockscreen shows the notifications when you pick up the phone? Or any app recommendations for that? Found it very handy to see what the notifications were without having to press a button.

Not keen to have the always on display.

Thanks.

Don't know anything about the phones you mention, but...

My S8+ as set up out of the box and no cover:

Desktop turns off after 30 to 60 sec.(was doing something else to do a timing) then the time and date displays (always ON).

If settings, lock screen, always ON is unticked then when the desktop turns off, then nothing displayed.

My S8+ using the stand case (with settings, lock screen always ON is ticked):

When cover is closed the desktop turns off immediately, then time and date displays for about 5 secs and then turns off.

Have a question re cases & screen protectors. Got my 8+ on pre-order a week ago and grabbed a (so called glass) screen protector (thought it was a good idea).

Yesterday I grabbed the Samsung LED cover (which is great and looks good). I have come across a small problem, the case pushes against the screen protector on the edges making the protector sit slightly off the screen which is a pain as sometimes have to press harder to register my press. My question is, does anyone know of a brand of screen protector that fits really well and works with a case (& where to get it from). At this stage I am looking at removing screen protector and just using case.

I have had 2 previous phones (Moto G2 and G3) with Gorilla glass 3, a protective case and no additional screen protection. Never got scratches and the touch screen was very good.

I figured the S8+ with Gorilla glass 5 and a protective case is all I need.

can anybody let me know if they have a wireless charger that works with the Clear View Standing Cover. The one I had for my S6 does not work with the S8 and this case as it to thick.

Trying to find one I know would work with this case.

I picked a case that has a magnetic closure flap over the screen. It's not scratching that concerns me (never scratched one in my life) but breakage if dropped on the face.

It's a bit like the people who insist on covering the rear LCD's on DSLR's with nasty lumps of plastic. I throw my DSLRs in car footwells, ute boots, loose in bags, all sorts - covered in mud, rain and so on - and have yet to scratch the rear LCD of any of them in any meaningful way. To me, it's like covering the head of a hammer with a protective device! It's tool, meant to be used.

I thought the Samsung one would do the deal however its to cold this time of year to be in the dog box for the next 3 weeks. Was looking for something that works but also keeps me warm in bed at night.

Sleeping outside for 3 weeks for spending $129! Might be easier to get a new Significant other :)

heheh , mate she has put up with me for the last 30 years I would be lost without her. That being said if you had seen what I have spent over the last 2 weeks $129 would certainly put me in the dog box hahahahaha

Haven't found a case yet (on s7) that won't charge on wireless charger. Do you have the cover folded back or something? Using the genuine charger and cable?
