Seems to be quite an issue, definitely problems with the samsung galaxy s locking on, seems to get far weaker signals than other phones and cant seem to lock onto signals with a strength of less than 22...

hopefully its a firmware issue and not a sensor issue....
who the heck tests these phones..
There are a few people who have tried the newest JW1 firmware saying the GPS is much better.

I hope so though I have a feeling its a hardware issue as it just gets weaker signals than other devices. Though the issue of locking on and keeping a lock is hopefully a firmware issue.

New question..

I have a few phone contacts with photos I like... but their facebook photos override them... any way to choose which photo to display in the contacts ?

numfarr: It is fine for me but Christchurch isn't a very demanding environment for GPS. It's definitely not as sensitive as my dedicated GPS as it can't get a lock inside, but it locks fairly quickly outside and I haven't noticed it losing the lock (have tried Copilot, Ndrive and Google Nav so far).

Yeah you cant use programs like that to test gps as they filter the gps signals and predict gps, so even if it loses signal they wont report it instantly and they snap you to the road etc..

Ndrive bleeps immediately when the GPS loses lock, e.g. if I go inside with it still running, so I would have noticed. I haven't seen it snapping to any side roads either, which normally happens when a GPS is having major accuracy problems, so it's good enough for me to use at the moment. I installed the new firmware and it can sometimes get a fix indoors now though it doesn't hold it for long, so perhaps they have improved it.

Definitely seems big speed increases in finding the satts from startup and inside, impressive.

I see jm2 is already out... man samsung are working hard...

A lot of people were worried about samsungs lack of firmwares for past phones etc, this is the other extreme...
Really good to see..
And the last couple have been pretty big, big changes etc...

From what I've read they won't release a new firmware officially until froyo is out.
So probably september for the european phones.

reading more on the people testing the gps, still seems there are some issues with the gps but its getting better with each release with quite big jumps in performance :)

Im debating on whether to flash it or not.. but have my phone so nicely set up right now....

I hope so too. Where are all these leaked releases coming from? I mean it's all very well them doing a lot of unofficial releases, but I wouldn't expect the majority of people to have to bother with firing up Odin just to get a gps lock our a little less lag. Using Kies is bad enough.

Who knows, but remember froyo is going out to korea in early august which isn't that far off and I think they will prefer to have people upgrade the firmware and OS at the same time for less disruption for the customer.
One month isn't long to wait really.

No idea where they are coming from but its great to see them, gives us ideas what is going to be in the official firmware and what they are working on. Flash is working in jm2 now also and they have new task manager which is quite nice. They are making changes to the interface now too.
Just a shame there are no changelogs to go with the leaks.

Get the galaxy....the bad (lag,gps,build qual) isnt that bad, and Samsung look to be actively supporting the device with Froyo to be released soon.

That's brilliant. Hadn't used the GPS (Co-Pilot)for three weeks, tried this morning after reading this and still had 'no signal' after waiting ten minutes, i.e. not even one satellite showing.

Made the changes set out in the above tutorial, rebooted and turned on Co-Pilot - and had a strong fix within 10 seconds.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
