Technofreak: The rumour of a Nokia Android phone has been floating around for a while certainly well before the annoucement that Microsoft was to buy Nokias handset division.
One story was that Nokia wasn't happy with the way Microsoft was progressing the development of WinPhone. Nokia's licence period for WinPhone was drawing to a close and they were looking at a plan B.
However perhaps the Finns had a cunning plan. The deal for Microsoft to buy the handset division had been on the table for a while and had seemingly gone cold. Perhaps the portent of an Android phone was just the bait to get Microsoft to clinch the deal.
Either way I don't see an Android Nokia any time soon.
However Microsoft only has the exclusive use of the Nokia name for 30 months and Nokia cannot use the Nokia brand on their own mobile devices until after 31 Dec 2015. I'd say watch what happens after that date. Even then I'd expect that if they do anything that perhaps they'll team up with the likes of Jolla.
As I was writing this post I found this http://gigaom.com/2013/12/11/why-microsoft-probably-wont-go-through-with-nokias-android-plans/

Garmin Fenix 5
jeffnz:
I would agree but found this and it also makes some sense if only to move users to MS apps. Be interesting to watch what happens.
I'd like to see a Nokia Android offering
Sony Xperia XA2 running Sailfish OS. https://sailfishos.org The true independent open source mobile OS
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6
Dell Inspiron 14z i5
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
Technofreak: Agreed the N9 was/is very good and runs rings around WinPhone in many ways, it's real pity it never got a better run.
KiwiNZ: The chances of Microsoft selling an Android product is more unlikely than Apple selling a Windows PC.

uglyb0b: While it is unlikely that Microsoft will sell an android product, this is assuming the OS is "Google Android" as in - Android with all of Google's apps and services.
Google is really pushing their closed source services in Android these days. Almost all of the AOSP apps are far inferior to Google's equivalents and they are making it increasingly difficult for EOMs to not rely on Google services.
It would be interesting to see a company like Microsoft take the Android AOSP framework and integrate their own services rather than Google's. Essentially creating a "Google free Android".
That said though, Microsoft's apps and services will not be open source either so it could end up going the same way.
Either way, it would be very interesting to see someone successfully create an alternative to Google apps within Android.

KiwiNZ:jeffnz: more rumours and to be honest the interface looks horrid but if its just playing mind games its interesting to watch.
I kinda feel that way about Android in general, the interface is messy and in most cases too busy.

yes I can see how a lot would think that and most likely right about busy and maybe to many options but I'm used to it now and have a particular way I set up and use.
Although most are saying unlikely I still see this as very smart by taking out Google dependent apps, time will tell if its a goer or just marketing speak

It seems to me, and probably only me, but all mobile OS's be it IOS, WP8, Android, Firefox, ubuntu etc all seem to have an identity crisis, they cannot decide if they are a mobile or pseudo desktop OS. For me and again probably only me
a mobile OS should clean efficient and very easy to use, and I mean by easy to use, that is does not need time and effort to find things. Must be very useable in the light of day and very useable with one hand. To me Android and IOS are
two handed OS's, and I know this is exacerbated by disability. WP8 is the most mobile friendly and one handed friendly I have used of late but it is still not 100% there.
Back on topic the Nokia version shown on those Pics seem very much work in progress and in some shots looks unrealistic.
