VodafoneDylan:
kontonnz: fast charging is great and all; but at the end of the day lithium based batteries have a life time and at the end of that life time you either replace the battery or replace the device; when I spend over $1k on something i expect to be able to extend its lifetime and not have to "replace" it every couple of years or be forced to replace it; that's the prob with these batteries that can't be removed

I think the argument is it allows manufacturers to have a larger battery if they don't need a removal mechanism, and a more robust device if the backplate is more than just clipped on. I would guess they might be looking at the number of phones sold, the number of replacement batteries sold, and conclude that it's not an issue for the huge majority of people.

In our new Christchurch building apparently there will be wireless chargers built into the desks.

you right there, they look at the bigger picture say bout 20- 30% of us want bigger batteries....unfortunately we get the chop.

its only matter of time before fast charging be on every device, replacement batteries be a thing of the pass

Look how long it has taken for even basic 2.1a chargers to be the norm on things. Wont be a long time till you find affordable fastcharge chargers everywhere. And then apple will probably go and do their own thing again and fragment just like they did with standard USB charging.

Just to play devil's advocate here, I switched to an S6 edge+ on Friday, and the battery life has been significantly better than expected, outperforming the Exynos Note 4 by a wide margin - particularly in standby.

Pulled 6 hours screen-on over a 27 hour period on a single charge, and had 8% left. Colour me impressed.

I understand the SD card move was in a large part due to Samsung's implementation of UFS 2.0, which SD cards would defeat the purpose of.

I value having expandable storage, but now that lossless music streaming options are available, it's less of an issue than it has ever been before - and it certainly hasn't stopped people buying other phones without SD slots for the last eight years. :)

Put 300 cycles on the battery and see how you get on for how well it lasts.

I have my Note 3 for almost 2 years now. I charged at least 2x during the weekdays and 3-4x on the weekend. It is at least over 500 cycles now. I can still have ~4 hours screen time with no sweat.

The fact that Note 5 has fast charging like Note 4 - it will take quick topup and you're done. So, I don't see any issue of not swapping batteries - as I hardly need to do this with Note. I do swap batteries with Galaxy s2 and Note 1.

With regards to storage - I don't think I need it anymore. My storage = Dropbox for files/pics. I stream music... So no big deal.

My note 4 has fast charge, and the second battery (a genuine samsung from the samsung NZ store) is now stuffed like the first. Drops from 35% to 1% over about 2 mins and then turns off. Fast charge gets it back up to "30%" in about 5 mins, and then then to 50% in about another 40 mins, but that will only give me an hour of on and off usage. Taking it to 100% gives me about 3 hours now. I probably do 3-4 cycles of 100% down to 40% and back up again when it was working, now it limps between the car and the house and a powerbank in my bag.

Got another on its way to me to get it working again, but unless there is a while you wait in warranty swap out for the batterys when they crap out, I dont want inbuilt because that would mean being without the phone while sending it in, or worse getting a re-furb like apple do.

I dont have enough of a data cap to make streaming music viable. Perhaps when we get 30-40 gigs on mobile plans that will work, but till then I sync to storage at home and play that in the car, whatever the app - rdio, google play music, MS groove or QQ music.

Yeah, I get the cloud thing but it tends to fall over in my case, driving to around the Wairarapa in the weekends, my network provider doesn't have adequate coverage to access the cloud. Also it tends to crap out a bit on the long haul international flights.

Could always use one of those USB charging hubs on it when driving/flying etc with a flash drive with content. If I could get one with a USB socket for the phone side I would stash it behind the dash and just have the cable coming out. Still leaves getting the stuff onto the flashdrive however. The streaming music services dont let you load up on a different device.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is now available for pre-order at http://www.vodafone.co.nz/shop/mobileDetails.jsp?skuId=sku850050 . If you pre-order the Note 5 on a new 24 month Red + plan there's a free Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 inch 4G tablet included as well. :)

Thanks for that.  I've just ordered the current version of that from Amazon which delivers to NZ for a total of $US 29.

So $1300 for the 32GB Note 5, with a chance some idiot will insert the S Pen the wrong way as a joke and stuff my phone? Forget it.

Also $1400 for the S6 edge+ 32GB and $1550 for the S6 edge+ 64GB?

When you take everything else into account: Yeah, nah. Thanks anyway!
