Geektastic:

As a percentage of total production, how many Note 7's actually had the problem?

To take this move, I suspect all have the potential to develop the problem as it sounds like it is a design issue that can't be easily solved.

I wonder who is going to keep their one?

Its a risk not worth taking

Coz phones are not flaming up just when they charge but also when lying idle doing nothing

its better to be safe than sorry

I have to admit I did give it some serious consideration as there really is nothing to compare to the Note 7. Even the S7 Edge I have now feels like a step backwards.

But once it was announced that Samsung had stopped production, it was obvious that I had to either look for an replacement or struggle on with the Note 7, waiting for (possibly) an early Note 8 release. And I suspect it would have been a struggle, what with travel restrictions and constant nag screens from Samsung and Spark to power down and replace it.

The final thought that pushed me back into Spark yesterday? I use my phone a lot on the road and the thought of my Note 7 going up in smoke whilst driving in the car - however unlikely, was, at the end of the day, a risk that I just could not take.

I don't think insurance will cover any damage done if it does burn the house down etc.  It's a little different from a washing machine catching fire etc as people do miss the recalls on them.  However the phone is telling people to return it so not easy to miss.

None of the current alternatives set my pants on fire (laughing) as the replacement for my N7 - so I'm thinking seriously about getting a cheap-as daily runner and using that until something really desirable arrives - maybe even if I have to wait for the S8 or whatever in February.

I am in the same boat. I want a similar sized screen and resolution, loads of power and memory. I don't want an Apple device. I can hang out a month, but really not ideal to hang out longer than that. Pixel XL or LG V20 seem like likely candidates. I am confused by the current Sony line up. they have a 4K Z5 Premium but that looks like last years model?

I broke my Z2 last weekend and ended up with the Z5 Premium, even though I knew the XZ was coming, there was no release date for Aussie... I love the Z5 Premium, but 3 days later they announced pre-order for the XZ. yell

I was never going to fork out $1400 for decent Pixel.

(For the Sony fans, XZ is $999 in Oz, available on pre-order yesterday)

I really like the specs, look etc of the Xperia XZ and would definitely get one to replace my Note 7 - but I would need to know if/exactly when I would be able to get it. Going away 2 Nov and would need it by then - probably not going to happen. So I guess I will have to settle for S7 Edge - which I don't really want - damnit.

Edit: Looking on the Sony Oz site, I see expected 'stock in-store' date is Sun 23 Oct. Would love to know about NZ.

Was intending to take my N7 back to VF this morning but might now wait a few days to see what happens on this.

I think you should wait till next week to see if there is an announcement about the XZ.

My very reliable source mentioned about this phone to me yesterday. So I am looking forward to it too.
