Hi All!
loved the note7 until i was made aware that it could kill me.
Now what? What's a great replacement? ( please dont say the S7 ). Is there anything worthwhile coming up in the near future?

iPhone 7 or Google Pixel would be my suggestions.
interesting...will check out the google pixel.
not a fan of apple...esp itunes :)
- OnePlus 3
- Moto G4
- Nexus 5x
- LG G5
- Huawei P9
I brought the Huawei Mate 8 earlier this year over waiting for the Note 7 (had an earlier Note 5). I am still totally in love with it. I get 2 sometimes even 3 days on the battery, have tons of storage (64 base plus up to 128 sd), a beautiful 6 inch screen and have had zero issues. The predictive text was my only bug and over time that has got way better. At a minimum if screen size was a factor have a look at one. While they did not go HD to keep battery life up it has been a non issue for me and OMG the battery on this thing goes and goes. Im at 71% right now and never charged it last night. Use wifi and bluetooth on all the time and make up to an hours calls a day as well as stream to it at times.

It's all about Apple Music these days (a personal music library/Spotify hybrid) on iOS, you don't need to use iTunes at all.
The Huawei Mate 9 might enjoy some of the success off the back of Note 7. My friend had the note 7 and pretty much asked the same question, what should i get now. I said if you can wait for the S8, do that. Otherwise LG V20 would be a good option.
I didnt think of the Mate 9 - maybe when this is out, I might suggest this one.
ZTE Axon 7?
I am in the same boat. I want a similar sized screen and resolution, loads of power and memory. I don't want an Apple device. I can hang out a month, but really not ideal to hang out longer than that. Pixel XL or LG V20 seem like likely candidates. I am confused by the current Sony line up. they have a 4K Z5 Premium but that looks like last years model?
The Note 7 screen would annoy me after having a larger screen. Two things I'll miss on any device are the Spen which I didn't use a lot but still used, and more importantly a physical button for home (and camera).
Any other candidates?
I wonder if they will become collectors items? Of course as long as they don't explode. But I suspect that they will likely bin the 'note' brand and it will become part of the galaxy S models. I don't know why it wasn't initially, as their device naming is confusing.
The big problem with the pixel, apart from it being ugly, is that it is very expensive. Although the benefit over samsung, is that it has pure android, so should get updates as soon as they are released. Touchwiz really turns me off samsungs, as it just make it look ugly. Although I always installed my our launcher on it.
Personally I like Sony and their design. They are probably the closest to Apple in terms of nice designs.
I thought the Pixel's pricing is similar to the current Sammy crop. IE, the lowest model is about 1199 NZD and the most expensive one was 1599 (same as Note 7).
But this is a big step away from the Nexus line (where Nexus 5x can be had for 399 at present i believe).
It would be nice if Google continued with a Nexus 5 with updated specs every year at the price point.
But in terms of what to replace a note 7 with, the obvious candidate is definitely the S7 Edge (similar size with almost same specs -SPen). I would vote LG V20 if they decide to release that here in NZ (or parallel it).
Pixel XL - i dont see that as a replacement for a note. I do see it as a replacement for an iPhone 7 Plus though.
The appeal of the note was the screen, the waterproof, the pen, the form factor (bigger was better in this case), the SD card (bar note 5), the power and the battery. I havent checked, but is the Pixel XL physically similar to Note or iPhone (i understand the iphone is slightly bigger than Note - correct me if Im wrong).

The Sony XY has just launched in the UK and other places. It looks really nice, but is only running 1080p screen and and has Sony's large bezels - is the same physical dimensions as my old Z2. But build quality looks great and Sony are talking up the camera.
How safe are the Chinese makes from cyber hacking type issues?
When I worked in the government, there was a list of Chinese phones that GCSB had banned from government buildings over concerns that they could be used as listening devices by Chinese Intelligence Agencies. Some government departments (e.g. MFAT) still make visitors surrender their phones at reception as a result.

Although, comparing the iPhone 7 plus to the Note 7:
- Screen resolution is nowhere as good. Yep, individual pixels I can see!
- No wireless charging
- No NFC (for general use)
- similar screen size, but much bigger hardware dimensions
- bezels - all of them, are much bigger
- No 3.5mm headphone jack
- No expandable storage
Why would you bother?

Do you mean Sony XZ?
I'd prefer QHD over 1080P though it's not the end of the world. I don't really like large bezels any more.
The larger screen is a reasonable drawcard. I liked the Nexus 6P.
So torn. Also USB C would be a factor.
