Dingbatt: Just reading online that an app has been developed that is capable of remapping the Bixby button (called All in one Gestures ). Doesn't appear to require root either. I have my doubts about the utility of Bixby, particularly if it doesn't support local accents. If the button can be remapped to open Google Assistant or even as a shutter button for the camera all the better.
Edit: here is the Engadget article on it.

Bixby doesn't appeal - it's Samsung packing a whole lot of software into the OS that I don't want or need. Bloatware on steroids.
I've decided against upgrading to the S8 from the S7 as I want faster OS upgrades than Samsung offer. If OS upgrades were not an issue, Bixby would be the next thing that would make me weary about the S8. Samsung should stick to making great hardware with timely updates, rather than trying to become a software company as well.

Dingbatt: But you miss the point for Samsung. They are building their own ecosystem. They want people to refer to their phones being "a Samsung" not "an Android" phone when asked. In the same way as tablets are almost universally referred to as iPads. Bixby is just another step along that road.
Bixby connection to the Gear S watches will be the next step.
The reason I have little faith for Bixby in this little corner of the world is I'm still waiting for Cortana, and for Siri on my AppleTV.
I get the point, just don think it is going to pan out for Sammy.

I read on Stuff when the S8 was announced that the NZ release date is 1st may, but none of the carriers or retailers mention a release date. seems kind of odd :(
I looked at it, and filled in the expression of interest form on VF.
Not sure I would do it when it comes down to it. VF "owe" me a handset upgrade and tried to tempt me off my no contract plan the other day. I'm still wondering if the Note 8 will turn up (and if I dare buy it if it does) and on top of that, the rumours of the iPhone 8 look good.
Nice to have choices. What I would like is a Note 8 running iOS...!

So many choices of devices I want right now. I'd like the S8 Plus, but then I want a pen, so Note 8 would be good, but then the Sony XZ Premium device looks INSANE and I want that as well.
I found with my S6 Edge, and Note8, that esp when gaming, I'd occasionally press on the screen at an inopportune time. In a war event that's a deal breaker. I have quite a complex way of holding my phones now to ensure no finger tips touch the screen whilst I am holding it.
Much bigger screen, same size battery. Will the S8 herald a return to the dismal battery life we saw in the S6? This is one phone I reckon it would be worth waiting for reviews to come through - esp. if battery life is important to you.
So i was snooping around PB Tech yesterday and saw the S8..
What happened to the edge lol.. Did they realize it was a shocking idea?

All of the S8's have curved displays. Samsung has dropped the non-edge models.

Ah, I did notice it had a rounded edge instead of a square edge like typical displays. Maybe i didnt notice the actual edge as its more subtle?
I hope they removed all that horrid edge crap that never did anything apart from destroy your battery.
