Also me trying to justify the ultra:

$1724: Student price

-15% GST

-$150 Sell A50 on trade me
-$100 Sell S6 Edge on trade me
-$100 Don't cut my hair for 4 months.
-$50 sell my office chair on trade me
-$15 cash discount from coin collection in car.

~ $1050. Seems like a steal. 🤣

ShinyChrome:

I see there was an interesting tid-bit from Unpacked as well, apparently starting from the S10, we will now get 3 major OS updates.

@gehenna what color and version did you end up with?

Note 20 Ultra 5G, Mystic Bronze.

Dial111:

The S/O is wanting a new phone to replace her dated one, she’s not too worried if she gets a new shiny one or inherits my current phone.

Now if she takes the new one I think I’ll go the S20+/Ultra route to save some money, but if I take the new one it’s Note 20 Ultra (Because I’m a Magpie) but I don’t want or need another pair of buds or a Bluetooth speaker, + the price hurts me dearly.

Heh, did exactly this with in March; her phone broke, so I helpfully offered to give her my Note 9 and I'll go and buy a new phone.

I'd say if you are gonna go all out, go N20U and flip the goods, unless you can get a good discount on the S20U. You might not get retail for the accessories, but every little bit brings the price down.

If that is too rich for your blood, and you don't need the pen, the S20+ is most likely a better phone then the N20. JB HiFi is also doing the same $200 off on 2d + $200 gift voucher on the S20+, but there are probably better deals around by now.

Don't forget to check if your old phone has any value too; I see my S20+ has appreciated $205 since this morning.

Worse sound quality on the buds live doesn't sound good.  I love my buds +.

I had pre decided to get the 20 when I brought my note 9.  It's a lot of cash but my note 9 will die eventually and it's on the last version of android it will ever get.

I already have equinox on the 9 so thats not a downgrade.

The ultra 5g is the only one to get because any 4g phone that you buy is not going to last you two years.

The other option is to get one of the foldable phones of course.  I am just waiting one more generation for the tech to mature.  The microsoft one thats about to come out could be an option.

Does anyone know if the UE hyperboom has apt-x, aac or any of the non crappy Bluetooth codex?  No mention on the ue specs page.  It is bluetooth 5 apparently.  It does get great reviews.

The only thing I can see from these two reviews here and here is that it doesn't have AAC or aptX

"...it offers Bluetooth 5.0 with A2DP, there is no support for high definition codes like AAC or aptX."

GSM Arena has published a N20U hands-on review; interesting to note that, while the screen is still for now 120hz OR WQHD+, for refresh rate it now has an 'Adaptive' mode instead of the 'High refresh rate (120hz)'.

Hopefully this is a new feature in OneUI 2.5 that will be eventually rolled out to S20s.

Rather conflicted this time around team. Seriously considering buying a Snapdragon N20Ultra from overseas even with the risk of band compatibility, warranty, bundle deals etc.
Struggling with paying for our Exynos variant with the knowledge the Snapdragon is around.

Although I'm not a phone gamer it's likely a moot point, still would rather have the all singing all dancing version.
512gb storage unavailable here is also a factor.

Love that mystic bronze though

Anyone else considering buying from overseas?

I totally agree, exynos is a inferior chipset when it comes to battery and performance, i tried to connect with samsung online but they didnt bother to respond , i guess like every company they are after profits so they rather use exynos

and 512gb yes thats a pain point too, my note 9 is 512gb and i have chewed 330 gb so that is a pain point too , if the borders were open we could get someone from aus n bring it but now that cant be done.

Same, really want a Snapdragon this time. Although I have access to a decent discount through work, which makes the decision harder.

I think the fact that most people won't know or care when you off load it, it may not be such a huge factor. It's one of those psychological things isn't it, once you know it is inferior, you will always feel it is inferior.

First world problems, yes, that's me!

Not sure I'd pay $1900 for N20 which only has plastic back and only 60hz screen

It's the note 20 ultra 5g or nothing I think.  I listened to the hyperboom in noel lemmings today.  It goes max volume without distortion but I am not sure if has quite the clarity on the high end I am after.  I might go back for another listen.  The lack of a decent codex makes it annoyingly imperfect.

I think I am keen to try the buds live regardless, either by getting the bundle or by buying them off someone who gets the bundle.

Anyone know why changing the carrier option on the Samsung store doesn't change the full model number for the Note 20 / Note 20 Ultra?

I always go for the Spark version (yeah I know they will all work) and Spark uses TNZ for their ID and 2degrees uses NZC.

Other phones on their store changes the model number with different carriers e.g

SM-A515FZKWTNZ - Spark

SM-A515FZWWNZC - 2Degrees

But changing carrier on the Note 20 doesn't change it. Want to make sure I am getting the Spark one..

Anyone know why that might be?

There's no such thing as a Spark version anymore. It's a multi CSC.

The device will download the correct settings for your carrier when it recognizes the SIM card.
This was implemented with the S20 Range.
