No matter what happens, I will buy a android anyway. But it's a matter of when. Even though I don't use android, but I always keep a eye out for android for years. I think I will buy it next year. I don't know whether the telecom branded sgs will get the froyo, but I doubt it. I prefer the telecom one coz I get great XT coverage here. But I think the telecom branded one has a different product code than the generic one. I might be out of luck.

I have bought too many parallel imported smartphones in the past. Don't wanna do again. Too many problems, too many hacking. That's why I prefer a local Nz version. But if that's noT possible, I will still consider a import.

Has anybody had an update come through yet on a nz bought galaxy? Or an update to when its coming?

I'm still waiting on mine and the samsung folks keep giving me the "its been released, but unknown when it will come to NZ" answer.

My preference would be to update without hacking, so its very frustrating having to wait knowing its been released everywhere else :)

I agree. Having just bought the thing I'm not keen to start hacking it when there's a new version just around the corner (hopefully)....

It's not out yet. And to be honest noone can tell you when it will be out. Samsung are full of sh*t too. They said that they will inform their customers when it will be hitting each country. They were saying that they had no dates on the day of the release of the 2.2 update in EU. Very useless after sale support for sure.

If it's so hard for samsung to release froyo for voda version, then XT version might never be able to Even get a update. Damn!!

Thats giant corporates for ya Money mouth

I guess we all spend our $1k or whatever on a state of the art phone assuming the manufacturer will hook us up with updates. In reality these people just want to sell you a new phone every 12 months.

I will wait till the end of November and If there is no update, I will be hacking my phone. As it stands, this is the first and last purchase from Samsung. Not because the update is late, but more so to do with the lack of communication from the company to their customers.

Same. I'm not even sure why I'm waiting but perfer to do a backup of the stock phone once official Froyo is on it, then I'll probably start dabbling.

Well, the lack of the 3 button recovery/download function on my handset is what holding me back. I've rang Samsung NZ and they refused to fix it, as they do not see it as functionality of the phone. Go figure. However the rep I spoke with from Samsung said that the 2.2 update should enable the 3 button combo.

So the first thing I will do is enable the 3 button recovery combination. There is a thread on xda on how to do it. Then I will get Odin and never ever again use that pos software Samsung decided to use for their so called flagship device, which btw was not even created for Galaxy S. And finally I will get a custom ROM and be happy. hahahaha...

How come everybody can still be happy with custom rom?? I used to be a big hacker and tried out every rom. But, heaps of problems with them. I dont wanna do that anymore. Now I prefer the original rom. Custom rom are so unstable. I might just need to look somewhere else. Damn. I really like to have a sgs!

From what I've read, custom roms in most case are more stable than original ones.

I've been hacking and modifying windows mobile phones for years but must admit i'm the same as harrylin. Had enough of that now! Be nice to have a great out of the box stable, fast rom. The curious technical side of me will always want to push the boundaries and how I can keep improving. I'd rather just it come to the phone via simple updates, rather than flashing roms kernels, radios etc etc.

The irony is... I just bought me an AT & T Captivate to use on XT, since I couldnt afford the Telecom Galaxy version. After some reading, I need to root it, so I can remove the AT & T bloatware, and install a modem which is HSUPA enabled as AT & T depower the Captivate so it doesnt have full upload speed enabled... so... some things never change!

- Telstra HTC Touch Pro2 - Energy ROM WM6.5.5 20 Oct/Cyanogen Mod Froyo 2.2 - R.I.P
- AT&T Galaxy S Captivate 16GB on XT (now with brother)
- Samsung Galaxy S2 on XT- Runs ICS 4.0.3 Resurrection Remix 9.2
- Business Hours - Work In The Electricity Industry, After Hours - DJ/Turntablist - Will Scratch Vinyl For Free'
- What's next??? S3?

It does suck that you buy probably the best phone around and then have to hack the bejesus out of the thing to get it to work anywhere near what the thing is capable of. I guess the success of the iphone maybe isn't so surprising afterall?

Lol. What you say here is exactly what I'm thinking. Even tho I don't like to hack anymore, I still have to hack if certain functions are not present. I always take risk to hack a Brand new device, even tho I don't like it.
I dont know why you dare to buy a captivate. I don't dare to buy a import or a modified version (such as captivate), I still prefer the international version or a generic one, because they can be upgraded to new firmware easily and they are better supported by xdadevelopers. I don't know whether captivate is supported by many xdadevelopers. I'm afraid it's not. I would rather spend more money on a XT sgs than a cheap captivate. Because XT sgs looks more similar to the original sgs lol, although not 100% the same.
Besides, I would do the same as you, hack the captivate to enable that very important hsupa.
