I just hope they don't hold it back till the s8 to try and get people to buy that to get Nougat

That is absolutely what I am expecting to happen and that coupled with the Note 7 debacle would see me leaving Samsung for good. Sick of their sht

Bought my S7 from Expert Infotech, however having same problem as this post regarding an S6 I found while trying to find out wtf was wrong:

Wrath101: Just bought a 3g version from Expert Infotech as I felt I don't need 4g.

After being told there is not difference other than the cpu, i felt comfortable.

However, the manuals are in arabic, the charging plug is wrong, and I have some Islam prayer app installed by default.

Pretty unimpressed.

Then I tried to install the free Navigon app available to NZ, only to be told it cannot be installed on my device.

Is there anyway I can hack this phone so everything about it is completely NZ, and I can install Navigon?

Also I bought a car charger as an option for this phone which on their own website says only works with apple products. Anyone else have this problem or should I ask for a refund? I don't even know what else could be wrong with it as it's my first smartphone buy, ffs.

You won't need the manual. So drop that in the bin. If they send a lightning cable on the charger I'd complain, but the charger will still charge it with a micro usb cable. You can buy a genuine Samsung charger from any telco outlet if that bothers you.

That car charger should be fine.

When you got the phone was there a NZ plug included? As they may not be able to sell a device with the incorrect plug for NZ. They can however sell a phone if they include a NZ plug on top of the non nz plug.

This doesn't mean they can just throw in a travel adaptor and say they meet NZ standards.

What you're looking at doing is flashing your firmware.

I've had a look at your model, looks like the FD is an asian variant which allows you to have multiple sims (unsure as I don't have one).

It looks like there aren't many firmwares for the 930FD as it's only sold in some Asian countries.

From what i've read briefly, some people have installed the 930F firmware on their 030FD phone with no issues at all.

Have a look at this site - http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G930F/TNZ/ - and find the firmware you need (TNZ = spark, NZC = 2deg, VNZ = vodafone) and follow the instructions on the site.

As with anything, you'll have to do some research and decide if you want to proceed with it or not as I can't be held liable for any issues you may get with upgrading your firmware.

I've done it multiple times in the past with previous phones, and if it fails during updating, your phone will get bricked (i.e. wont boot up properly - but with my phones it boots into the firmware download menu when the firmware upgrade failed).

So first find what firmware you're currently using, download that as a backup, then download one of the NZ firmwares and flash that. Should make it feel like you bought it from NZ.

Also for what it's worth, i've had bad experience with E-Info. Their cheap deals got me purchasing a few handsets there but when you have any warranty issues (I had the Note 2 CPU issue) they'll dick you around as much as they can.

I have the G930FD also. Came with US pin layout on the charger. Your one appears to be the UK pin Setup. I bought a genuine samsung NZ/AU fast adaptive travel charger from vodafone. I wouldn't bother changing the firmware to a NZ version unless something isn't working. The Asian firmware usually gets updated earlier than NZ...

I'll see if they can provide the proper NZ plug/refund. If they refuse a refund do I have any leg to stand on legally?

And that is the problem with parallel imported items.

There is no such thing as a free lunch so they say, however if they have not supplied a NZ charger they should be taken to task over that.

I'm contemplating buying an S7 Edge, but being an anal sort I like to protect my phones, and I typically have mine covered with both a case and screen protector.

Can any user of this phone pass on their experience of using a tempered glass screen protector on the Edge, and if there are particular models they'd recommend? (Especially, if they work ok with a case - on a phone like this I'd possibly be ok moving to a minimalist case!)

I couldn't find any positive reviews of glass protectors for my S7 Edge, so just used the standard Spigen that PB Tech sells (can't recall what it's made of). I have a Spigen clear case that has (I think) a polycarbonate outer bumper around it. No problems at all so far *knocks on wood*.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

I bought a genuine samsung screen protector, very happy so far, it's hard to find something that fits around the curve without falling off, and mines the non-edge version (still curved tho).

Hi, has anyone with a foreign-sourced S7 SM-G930F successfully used it with ANZ GoMoney Wallet to make contactless payments?

The SM-G930F is on ANZ's list of supported phones, but the auto-fill option includes additional product code characters that all have 'NZ' in the syntax - suggesting that they are all versions issued by NZ telcos.

The product page of the vendor I am considering lists 'their' SM-G930F version as including NFC support, so the NFC hardware is (or ought to be) there.

ANZ (the mobile banking team) have advised that if I try GoMoney Wallet with a foreign-sourced S7 SM-G930F and it doesn't work, to advise them the full phone model code so they can "add it to their white list". So assuming the NFC chip is present and software enabled I'd hope it would work after that step.

So really just double checking by asking you guys before pulling the trigger - just in case there's some hardware/firmware/sim issue neither I nor my ANZ contact are aware of.

PS: I would've also asked about using such a phone for Snapper touch-2-pay (via NFC) on Wellington buses - as I currently do with my Galaxy S5. But 2degrees clarified to me this week that present they're not adding Snapper touch2pay support to any new phones nor are they still issuing the necessary touch2pay capable 2D sim cards. Both snapper's and 2D's websites seemed to have scrubbed any reference to touch2pay snapper support.
