its not quite that bad , its picking up less reception ,one bar less :( .....not that i mis any calls or anything should have been better

another question on doc's rom 9.6.6 - Is anyone getting good battery life on this build? I only get about 12-15 hours with out heavy use.

Which kernel are you using nzgman?

My phone has now stabilised. Turned it off and charged it fully and also reflashed JL2.

Not losing a percent every few mins now while idling, so pretty much back to normal. No idea what it was. Must have just been one of those things...pretty weird.

lofreq: you should be fine with JPY modem on voda. drain your phone completely till it turns off by itself, pull the battery for 30sec, charge it bak up to 100% while phone is OFF, then turn on and try again. basic steps, but you should start to see improvement

only did the first step, so far battery has improved a bit but not by much tho in last hour 5-6% drop with wifi on. will see how it goes tonight

signal strength isnt necessarily a true indicator. with custom roms, the metrics behind signal strength change easily. if you can still text or call wiith no issue then 1 bar less isnt an issue. if you were experiencing constant call fading/dropout etc, then certainly the modem is worth investigating

God the comment system on this site sucks. I'm looking at the reply page with HTML markup visible in the text I'm replying to, and no formatting buttons. And there's only 7 out of the 30 possible emoticons visible as well. Time to sort this out Mauricio.

Onto the topic... If you do a Factory Reset when you flash, this issue will disappear. Meantime, TB backup your apps, backup your txts and emails 'n such and boot into recover. Choose Factory Reset (or whatever it's actually called - it'll have the word 'factory' in the description so you can't miss it), and when it's done, Titanium Backup restore your apps without installing the data.

Worked for me when I neglected to Factory Reset on my most recent flash.

See, coming to GZ, even with its crummy post reply system, can cure what ails ya.

Good luck, and happy reinstalling.

have done a factory reset and loaded a new rom but now after downloading/installing TB it's not showing in my applications list, what do I do now?

Thats weird. Id try reinstalling TB, opening it from the market (My apps), make sure your rooted, clear the cache and dalvik cache. Do other apps install correctly? Maybe you have an efs problem

Edit: just saw you fixed it, Im to slow!

Hi everyone. Thanks for the comments.

We have relocated thanks to the generosity of complete strangers. I'm working, yes, working from a work mates house. His neighbours are away and offered their house. Absolutely amazing!

No power, phone, water or sewage at home. Have my Mum (and her cat) with us, her place isn't liveable. And Mum picked up a German tourist. We're all together. The rest of my Chch family is safe, scared but without any injuries, just damage to buildings.

Yesterday night was the first time I'd seen any images of the city. I'm numb. We've driven to family and what should have been a 20 minute drive back home took almost 4 hours yesterday. Thank goodness for my cheap-o car charger. I almost had the phone fully charged by the time we got home (that's my legitimate part of the post). Catch up again sometime soon. thanks for your thoughts.

Courtesy of lokhor, try this link. It shows an 'update.zip' kernel patch which you can use with cwm recovery to flash a better wifi driver into the JPY kernel.

Worked for me as far a bettery usage is concerned, and so far, reception has shown no downside. Give it a thrash and let us know how you did.

One last thing, make certain you're able to use download mode to re-flash JPY should anything go south - unlikely, but pays to be sure.

So you download the wifi firmware you want. Put it on your internal sd card and flash via CWM by going into recovery mode and then "apply update.zip from sd" or something, then go "select zip from sd" and find the firmware and then flash it. It would be smart to do a backup using CWM and check you are able to use download mode as R2D2 said.

PS: I haven't used or flashed these firmwares, I'm just telling you how to flash them.

Sure...

The link allows you to download a .zip file which will update the wifi driver with a modified version by 'patching' the kernel of your JPY update. So you need to download the JPY version of the patch file.

Step 2 is easy - hook your phone to your PC via USB cable in Mass Storage mode.

Step 3 requires you to drag your newly downloaded zip file to the sd drive on your SGS (it'll possibly be your "J' drive in Windows or one of your 'No Name' drives on the Mac. The drive you're copying to will be the one with the most Android files and folders on it...).

If you have Clockwork Mod 'full' restore on your SGS, when you start the phone in restore mode, one of the options is to install a .zip file (other than the specifically named "update.zip" which usually requires a 'signed' zip file - something that your wifi driver patch is most certainly not).

Step 4 is to use the volume up/down buttons to navigate the restore menu items and choose your newly copied wifi driver .zip file. Then press the Home (physical ) button to get the update flashed into your kernel. When it's successfully flashed, use the vol up/down buttons to choose the re-boot option, and Robert's your Mother's Brother. :-)

Easy peasy.

Hope all goes well for you, and remember, the link posted leads to plenty of info about Clockwork Mod, flashing and recovering, so enjoy.
