Thought so - was FF'ing last night on a 4.5Gb blu-ray rip and it was smoother than a gravy sandwich - what version of XBMC are you using?

Ive been running gingerbread on my sgs for a few hours now (ultibread 1.3 on xda), and it seems pretty good. Even though it does not use ext4 or other lagfix, I haven't noticed any real lag or other problems.

Early days though... I expect there will be a better kernel before long, supercurio has an experimental voodoo kernel out for it.

As it stands though, it seems stable, capable, and fast. 3BR works, although you only get 3e recovery and download mode (but thats enough to flash another rom with odin), and you get root.

The modem seems fine (on 2degrees, wouldn't know about xt), and all my old stuf from 2.2.1 works on (titanium, lcd density, root explorer, handcent, qq player (although it seems to have a problem scaling with lcd density active), movie player, quickpic, camera (haven't tested 720p etc)).

So, android 2.3.2... Working on the sgs thanks to the guys at XDA.

How to flash it (since the xda info is a little vauge/scattered):

1 Download ultibread 1.3 off xda and put it on your internal SD card.

2 Download odin 1.7 and the stock jv1 odin rom onto pc.

3 Put the sgs into download mode (if you don't know how, you are not ready for this). SGS is NOT plugged into the PC.

4 Load odin 1.7 (Kies should be installed but NONE of it loaded or running in memory).

5 Put the appropriate md5 files into the apporpriate boxes in odin. Use the 512 PIT and the samfirmware jv1 rom (223.2M).

6 Odin has has the re-partition, and reset time boxes ticked ON. auto reboot is OFF.

7 Connect your sgs to the PC. Sgs is in download mode still. Odin will recognise it's connected with a yellow box under ID:COM.
When recognised, click the start button and and shake one (1) dead chicken at the sgs. Rhythmic Chanting is reccomended.

8 The flash will finish, and if all went well it will say 0 failures. THEN unplug your phone. Remove the battery, wait 5 seconds, then reinsert it.

9 You can boot into stock (buggy) 2.3.2 now if you wish, as I did, but you can probably just boot straight into download mode again for the next step.

10 Boot the phone into download mode (yes, the jv1 rom seems to have 3br with download and 3e recovery).

11 Restart Odin.

12 Make sure Odin has repartion and auto reboot un-ticked. NO PIT file or any other file, EXCEPT your speedmod kernel md5 file in the pda box.

13 Click start button. The speedmod kernel installs (I used a k12c one I had lying around - the newer one is currently over quota on gdocs).

14 Odin should report 0 failures.

15 Unplug your sgs, take the battery out, wait 5 seconds, reinsert battery.

16 Boot your sgs into RECOVERY mode. (if you stuff this up, you will get boot loops and or cyclic vibration - don't panic, just take the battery out again. The speedmod kernel is not compatible with stock android 2.3.2).

17 Use CWM to flash the ultibread 1.3 zip file you put onto your internal sdcard.

18 When it's done, reboot the sgs.

19 Put chicken into oven. Use a oven bag to ensure tenderness.

20 You are finished. Enjoy your gingerbread sgs!

I'm keen to try GB but not so keen to flash my phone at the mo.  Not really the time to risk bricking my phone, no matter how "seasoned" you or I might think I am with flashing roms.  I guess I'll wait for more on XDA before taking the plunge when things are more stable - including the ground underneath me ;-)

Hope you enjoyed your chicken!

Doesn't seem to be, no. I did get an error about the servioce being unavailable at the moment and try again later though, until I turned on mobile data as well.

This is a real pain in the arse. some people are having no trouble it seems, while others just cant get it working.

I am still waiting to hear from people with sgs's who have MMS working, what there config is, and what network.

Thanks.

some of the mms I sent the other day actually went through eventually. It seems random as to whether it works or not and is inconsistent

Yes, just tested and my MMS worked instantly.  Even though I'm connected wirelessly, it still showed the H symbol as working at the same time.

I've with Vodafone, my phone is from Optus Australia and my current rom details are in my signature.

Thanks. Very useful, what ROM are you running, including modem, and apn settings?

Process of elimination.
