"Apparently that's wrong, download mode on the device uses a microkernel from inside the bootloader instead of the full blown Linux kernel. When flashing something via Odin in download mode you'd be using the bootloader's MMC driver and thus be at risk.

All-day users are still safe via recovery and live kernel, but are not advised to flash things in download mode with an older bootloader. This also explains why they updated the bootloader in LLA. The security checks are a mere update to bring it up with what the 9305 and Note 2 users already have in terms of not able to get rid of the exclamation mark."

webup: I flashed stock 2degrees 4.1.1 but kies wont let me get an update as its saying device modified????

Take your microSD card out and reboot. Then try again. Fixed :)

If you rooted your phone previously or have some cwm files on there then it will think that you device has been modified. Reformat the card fixes the problem as well.

Anyway, can anyone upload or send me the Samsung Video Maker apk?
The stupid app stopped working on my phone. I uninstalled it but cannot find it anywhere on Samsung Apps or Google Play anymore. Only found the one for US variants S3 which cannot be installed on mine somehow.

My S3 died yesterday. I had left it charging overnight and in the morning it was sitting at the start-up screen, the part that says "Samsung Galaxy S3". No amount of battery removing or hard resets would get it past that point. Took it back to Warehouse Stationary and they are going to send it away.

As a side note, I removed the SIM and thought I'd pop it in one of my old phones. Of course it's a micro SIM and all my other phones take normal sized SIMs, so the guy at my local 2 Degrees shop sold me an adaptor for $4.99 (got to be the most expensive piece of plastic in the world!) I tried it in three different phones and all of them wouldn't recognise the SIM.

I drove to the nearest Vodafone shop and they immediately offered me an adaptor for free, but when I explained that I'd already tried an adaptor they decided it might be worthwhile giving me a whole new SIM card. This fixed the problem, and they didn't even charge me anything for it.

BTW: It's a 2 Degrees branded phone but I use it with a Vodafone SIM. I made my micro SIM by cutting down my old full-size SIM when I got my S3. It always worked in the S3, so not sure why it wouldn't work in any other phone.

I have exactly the same issue as of this morning. Mine is an unmodified, unbranded phone I got from JB Hifi here in AU

what's gpsd guys? battery losing 30%per hour in idle mode! temperature shot up to 46%
it started happening since my phone restarted this morning on its own
how to trouble shot issues like this, it's not clear what app using all that GPS or whatever

Google 'Galaxy SIII sudden death syndrome'. Looks like this is not an uncommon issue, with phones dieing around the 150-200 day old mark.

I've read that there is a problem in the Android 4.1.1 firmware that causes the NAND flash to be read/written incorrectly, eventually killing the chip. Sounds like Samsung are doing motherboard replacements to affected handsets, but have fixed the firmware glitch in 4.1.2 (Too late for me)

I have no need for 32GB, I'm barely using maybe 20% of my 16GB!

I think the average is 2 to 3 weeks, I just hope they fix it without trying to blame it on water damage or something silly like that.

The guy at the Vodafone Albany store said they'd had 4 or 5 S3's back with similar symptoms, and he had been reading up on Sudden Death Syndrome.

Yeah, the guy I spoke to at Warehouse Stationary hadn't heard of SDS either. The guy at 2degrees I spoke to admitted receiving several S3's back for repairs but also hadn't heard of SDS. By comparison the guy at Vodafone knew about the problem, knew what it was called, and even told me that Samsung were working on a software fix. I don't know if Vodafone are advising their store staff or maybe this guy keeps up-to-date himself.

GPSD= gps daemon .
Application like Maps, Facebook, sygic and anything else requires GPS positionin will call that to get a lock of your ccurrent location. Chances are caused by Facebook app.

I wonder what percentage they claim water damage on, must be really high. Apparently sometimes those sensors they use can be setup just from sweaty hands or pockets, or high humidity, so from normal usage. Vut I would think they would need to prove that the cause of the problem is related to that moisture.

I had this problem also.

Every time my phone rebooted itself, GPSD would kick in and destroy my battery. The temporary fix is to manually reboot your phone every time it reboots itself.

I've since upgraded my custom rom and have not had this issue since.
