I've looked back through this thread, but can't see any mention of you updating your firmware from what came on the phone.

If you haven't, I'd suggest updating to the latest KE7 firmware. You can use Fus Downloader (http://fus.nanzen.se/) to get the firmware package, and Odin to flash. Battery life is certainly up over older firmware packages, and it may be more stable for you.

It's rumoured that 2.3.4-based firmware will be coming soon (source: @SamFirmware), which may help as it should fix a battery-eating bug that affects dual-core phones (source: @EldarMurtazin).

I am running KE7, I've updated firmware twice through Kies rather than Odin, shouldn't make any difference right? I'd like to get rid of Social Hub though, seems to be always running and I don't want it to.

How did you update to KE7 using Kies? I'm still on KE2 and Kies is telling me that's the latest firmware available??

Don't know mate, I just plugged it in and it told me there was a update. I can assure you I've used no other program to update.

Don't know mate, I just plugged it in and it told me there was a update. I can assure you I've used no other program to update.

Maybe it depends on where the phone originally come from as to whether the firmware has been released for that region?

Question: are the torch applications safe to use? I'd find one quite handy but don't want to damage my phone

HTC provide a torch app for their phones so they must think it's safe. I have used one on my hd2 for 18 months without any noticable problems.

I have read that the leds on the hd2 can flicker etc after about 45min continuous use but they are fine once they cool down.

I expect the samsung will be fine with normal usage.

Paulsy: My Case Mate Barely There protector arrived today. Very nice - similar in quality, fit, etc to the model for the Galaxy S. It was my favourite protector on my Galaxy S (and I did try a few). Not too bulky and seems to make the phone easier to hold. Went for the black one although there are other colours available. Hopefully it'll let all that extra heat out okay.

My CMBT case arrived from Clove earlier in the week. I also think it's great - albeit a bit pricey. I had a similar but very cheap case for my GS and after a while the black wore off the back at the points where the phone rested on the desk and the white substrate showed through - hopefully the CMBT will not do that.

I also bought a vertical charging/USB dock from Clove. The dock would not be great if you had to take the CMBT case off to fit the phone in the dock. Surprisingly, the way the dock is made, the phone will just fit in the dock with the CMBT on - but it's very tight. The case binds at just the left- and right-hand ends of the slot in the dock into which the phone + case fit. So today I am going to pare away some of the plastic on the dock where it's binding and I'm sure I will be able to get the phone + CMBT to be a nice easy fit in the dock.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

OK. I think I'm really unlucky.
I noticed over the past couple of weeks that my phone was not behaving properly while a call was placed. The screen was always on.
So after doing a *#0*# the proximity sensor simply returns NULL

Anyone? Is this hardware or firmware?
If this is hardware, what are my chances of having it repaired/replaced by Samsung NZ?

Never lost the colour from the previous one so I would assume its moulded in that colour. I got mine off Ebay but was pricey too.

Might seem obvious but did you put your hand near the Proximity sensor? Mine shows null until I do that then it lights up the screen green and reads.

I did.
I tried using both *#0*# and *#*#0588#*#*
The former simply says null all the time.
The latter says:
"Proximity test mode, Proximity Sensor (as a large button but clicking it does nothing), Close to Activate!!"

I downloaded Android System Info, and it's reporting the sensor in the system->sensors section as Capella Microsystems consuming 0.75mAh. But not sure if this is actual hardware scan or just some info text file.

I did run the KE7 update through Kies when it came out. I am just about to re-do it.
But it's pretty much stock, no root, nothing frozen.

How do I reload the same firmware?
Kies is saying oddly that my current firmware is the same as latest available but doesn't think they are the same. Do I need ODIN (whatever it is) to do this?
iPhones are so much easier in this respect.

Had a few wines and watching NRL, so might be best if I get back to you tomorrow on ODIN, but there are far more learned people in here than me that can help you on this.

Not that hard, I figured it out after coming from from HTC , if no one jumps in to help catch you tomorrow.

To re-flash your current firmware you'll need Odin. It's easy to use, and you can use it to flash whatever firmware you want (including downgrading).

If you want to grab a copy, the easiest way is probably via www.samfirmware.com. You need to sign up (it's free), then go to Toolbox > Firmware > Android > GT-i9100. The page will have a download link for Odin, downloads links for firmware, and instructions on how to flash. Don't worry about the PIT file, and don't tell Odin to re-partition your phone, and you'll be just fine.

Managed to flush it but still no proximity sensor readings.
