defragger: Seems like reflashing did the trick so now have orientation working. Not a hardware issue :D

However I still think the signal loss could be, although wouldn't mind flashing a new modem. What are some compatible modems that people on here use for Telecom?

i know ive posted this before but the only ones ive had work well are JPA and JL2. JL2 being the best. but with yours not working on JL2 i dont know. ive never had signal loss requiring reboot.... i hope its not your hardware. try JPA again perhaps to be sure.

ive tried JVE, JVK, JA1 modems, all newer, all of them worked on 2100 but wouldnt switch to 850. i dont know why, i couldnt force them into 850. maybe they only switch when the signal is much lower, i dont know (ive read of people having to go into their basement to "force 850" maybe theres some truth to it....... i didnt test them out long enough before switching back to UGJL2

let us know how you get on......

There is a strange problem on my SGS I'd like help with please:

Today I noticed I forgot to close the contacts app running for too long (while the phone was in idle mode) and left it running for at least couple of hours, so I went into the built in task manager to close it, it somehow erased the a few default icons at the bottom of the TW UI (the phone/contacts/message/app) leaving only the blue app icon at the bottom centre of the UI.

Sorry I don't know how to take a screen shot and do a screen dump of my phone so I can show what I mean.

How do I get those default icons to be displayed again?
I rebooted my phone but doesn't solve the problem, the last resort would be to either do a restore or reflash the ROM (stock ZSJPJ with ZSJPG modem running Speedmod K13D 500hz kernel rooted with lagfix).

Anyone come across such a problem before?

Cheers for that. Will test different modems over the course of the next few days and see what happens.

read a couple of pages back and go to the link on the XDA Developers forum for the WCDMA modems 2010/2011 post, that post lists download links for a whole selection of modems, which you can flash via CWM (Clowckwork mod Recovery - google this if unsure)

I used the stock TW for all of 5 seconds. From memory you just need to drag the app from your home screen into the area where it you want it to show. So a drag and drop I think is what you need to do.

or press-hold on the home screen as if youre adding a widget, but then choose to add shortcut instead. from the list you should see Phone, Contacts, Messaging etc amongst other items that you can create a shortcut for. once created, drag and drop them back onto the bar.

i know that method works for most other launchers, i hope the stock TW launcher behaves the same... :D

Hold your finger down on the launchbar and choose "change shortcut".

its alright but not as slick as 2.2.1 custom roms and custom kernels.

2.2.1 is definitely far more polished and complete as a phone OS and interface.

im really only running 2.3.3 for the experience to see what it is like. it will get better im sure but given the choice id currently be happier on a fully modded 2.2.1 platform

the only best part about it is the CRT style shutoff animation, which is a ridiculous reason to change your whole phones setup i know. but hey. i love candy.

I was looking at buying a SGP screen protector but the case comes with one and are only $15 more...decisions!!!

I've seen similar slide in cases from overseas websites, apparently they are a tight fit to the phone, not sure if it'll scratch. Currently using a Momax case and a mesh case.
