Nope, the one thing it's missing! It's early days though

Yeah still early days, you noticing any problems with JVB?
Only thing I noticed was maps using a lot of GPS and Beautiful Widgets constantly accessing it. Factory reset seems to have fixed it and an update for Beautiful Widgets came out yesterday.

Don't seem to be experiencing the scrolling issue in Opera or standard browser that others have experienced though

I did have the battery issue but after trying a whole lot of stuff out I'm getting reasonable battery life. Maps wasn't causing it though but the "Android OS" process was causing it. The only problem now is the stock browser scrolling issue. Otherwise JVB is great and very fast.

lofreq: whats the "scrolling issue" ? insensitive flick scrolling you mean? or just jittery scrolling?

When you flick down a page it will only go a little way before just stopping, eg third way down a Trademe page. I might just replace it with the JS8 browser.

I feel it's quite good speedwise and at loading intensive pages. Definitely better than 2.2 by a bit.

Why are people, like the person above me, still using UGJL2 modem?

It's actually quite rubbish compared to the newer modems

Friendly suggestion for people to upgrade to DVJP9 (backed by Telstra australia, also using 850mhz)

I'm on GB (again). My first attempt was thwated by a dodgy return from Ext4 to RFS which never completed and hung on restoring dbdata. I restored data from a Nandroid backup but then my apps were all screwed up.

Today I went to do a factory reset. The plan was to go back to JS8 then re-flash GB but I got stuck on bootloops.

So we've gone Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread today. Easy as pie, didn't take much time at all. And I'm on Perka's ROM which I'm enjoying. Still to be fair I couldn't really say what the kitchen ROM was like since my failed restore mucked things up.

Anyone on GB, are you on ChainFires kernel and did you try his CWM, Ext4 and Tweak apps? I haven't even looked to see which kernel Perka's ROM is on. But from what I understand, those apps will save you a bunch of volume key pressing by doing those tasks through recovery.

Hey guys,

I've had enough: the phone is just not as fast as it should be

So, here goes my 150th attempt to custom ROM my phone

going beyond just thinking about it.

I made up a rough guide of what I need to do. Can you please have a quick look through it to check that I'm going to do this right

. There are some questions too, so if someone can shed some light on that - that'd be just awesome!

Note down your IMEI number – done

Make sure you have the three button recovery and download modes on your phone – done

Get root access –( z4root still the go????)

Take a copy of your /efs folder using SGS Tools 4.1.9.

Run the application

Select "Apply Script"

Scroll down until you locate "backup_efs_.q.txt" This will copy the /efs folder to your internal SD.

Take a backup of your existing ROM using ROM Manager

Install it

Click the first line which will allow you to select your model of phone for Clockwork Mod Recovery

Scroll down - take a backup of your existing ROM

Backup apps and data using TitaniumBackup

Go to Doc’s kitchen and generate the following ROM:

Base ROM: ZSJPJ v10 WIPE

CSC: VNZ

Kernel: Hardcore's Kernel SpeedMod K13D with HZ=500

Modem: BUJP5

Browser: Android 2.2.1 Browser JPJ

Launcher: Zeam Launcher 2.8.7 and AdwLauncher

Keyboards: I need English+Russian Swype???? + Samsung EURO Keyboard

Base Applications: (long list omitted)

MMS - Samsung standard, Mtp Application, Wipereceiver

Utilities: Quickboot, SGS Tools, Faster Fix, Quick Office, Car Home

Tweaks:

                             i.      Standard Ringtone

                             ii.      WPA Supplicant StandardWPA

                             iii.      Voodoo Sound

                             iv.      Damian Tweak

                            v.      Any others? (LCD Density Changer, Voltage Control 3.0 a3, Z4 Control)

Themes: any recommendations

Boot animation: Default

Sounds: Standard SGS

Place doc rom on internal sd (Anywhere????)

Enter recovery using 3-button combo

Do I need Factory reset, no?

Install docrom (what does this involve exactly?????)

Reboot

Restore apps using Titanium.

Enjoy

Fatboy do yourself a favour and follow my guide and install darkys rom

After youre done the initial setup,
Install darkys 9.5 rom ontop (nowipe)
And install DVJP9 modem

I agree with the Darky suggestion.

Used Docs for about a month, didn't like it at all so went back to Darkys.

Also Speedmod K13E is available and has some improvements over D

A factory reset before flashing can prevent errors when switching between android versions e.g. 2.1 - 2.2 and 2.2 - 2.2.1

You will also probably want to wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and wipe battery stats after flashing Doc's Rom (this is all done from recovery and the speedmod kernel has a ton of other cool stuff in recovery such as enabling BLN notifications and some other tweaks)

Not sure why you would install the Damian tweak if you aren't using his Kernel

Installing Doc's Rom involves flashing an update zip from CWM recovery or 2e recovery.

And you might want to chuck a copy of the /efs backup on your computer and any other data like messages, or your apps. Just in case.

As for the Damian tweak I was basically going of a summary sheet posted on XDA, and it was recommended to be included for beginners. Will double check if it's any use to me.

I think you can use Odin to flash a kernel that includes CWM (i.e. speedmod).

I think youre overly scared / cautious

I downloaded the rom, booted recovery, wiped, flashed darky with odin and was done within 30mins
Only thing i backed up was text messages lol
