Hi All,

I finally bit the bullet and flashed to a custom ROM.

I am now on 2.3.3 Gingerbread XWJVB if that makes any sense.

It sure is faster, but a heap of my Apps are still showing up - most of them wont open and crash, even after reinstalling.

Angry birds is one.

Help.

Cheers

Oops, forgot the download size  - 9.2MB.

Cheers ears :-)

Well it showed there was a newer version after entering the code and it's downloading as I type (my mobile data runs out today and I had plenty to cover the d/l - bigger grin).

Now to wait for it to finish and then try to get it to run without a FC.

AND .....

We have a winner!  Yes, it's working Laughing

+1. Its working, thanks for the help folks Smile

I have had some apps crashing on  XWJVB firmware too. It might pay to check if there is a update for Angry Birds on the market.

Hey Al, did you restore your apps and system data?  And if so, by what method?

Generally speaking when you change between say Eclair and Froyo and Froyo to Gingerbread you would only restore your apps and not system apps (if you use Titanium Backup, those in red).

I know you don't want to lose your data, but I wonder whether a factory reset and just restoring the apps and NOT the data might be a solution.

Have you gone into Menu | Applications and selected the app and cleared cache?  That might (or not) help.

You guys and your flashy new Gingerbread ROMS. I'm so jealous :P

Here I am going back to stock 2.2 so I can get my phone repaired. Haven't flashed anything in ages :(

So my story. Took it to Telecom over the weekend and they suggested trying out a new sim which they provided free of charge. Went back home and lost signal 3 times in one day so basically the same problem.

So back to Telecom today and now they are sending it away for repairs. Hopefully fix it once and for all and should be back in my hands in two weeks.

Oh how much I miss it. Have to resort to one of those Telecom R9 phones or whatever they are and let me tell you now, it is not the same as a SGS.

How are you folks finding the battery life on XWJVB, I am finding that the battery life isn't as good as it was on Froyo, used to get 48 hours on normal use. Guess its early days for XWJVB.

Do you guys think we will get 2.3.4 with video calling on the SGS?

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

After I did the flashing of the ROM I did nothing else to my phone - no restoring - nothing.

Some (in fact most) of the apps that were previously there were still there.

I used My Backup - but since that is one of the apps thats not running I have not restored anything.

The odd ForceWait/Close I can handle but all of my really good apps are not running ATM!!

Will try the cache clear thingy in a mo.

Clearing RAM in task manager didnt help - was that what you meant?

THe flashing of the ROM oddly seems to have removed my root access - how did you get root access?

Hi Al, you can use Chainfire to get root access. Download the correct file for the ROM and flash it via Odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108

I use Astro File manager to backup my apps and to restore the apps when I install new ROM. Only downside is that you it installs the apps one at a time.

Is that stock Gingerbread?  I'm running Perka's rom wihich by default had ChainFire's kernel, which had root included.  If you're using stock I suspect it doesn't have root access, I can't see why Samsung would provide that since usually it voids warranty.

So I suggest flashing ChainFire's kernel - if nothing else it'll give you root access which you'll need for some of your apps anyway.  He also has some nice apps included which will save you having to reboot to recovery to do the likes of converting from RFS to Ext4 and whatnot.

As for clearing the cache.  I meant for you to press the Menu button, scroll down to Applications.  Select Manage Applications, then click the ALL tab. Scroll til you find one of the applications, then press the Clear Cache button.

Cheers

As long as Samsung's own video calling app still works when I upgrade to GB, I am happy.

For those who have upgraded to GB, does the 3G video calling still work?
