Great post NikT, thanks.

One thing I really like is being able to plug a USB-C cable from the phone to my monitor (currently a BenQ 35" curved with HDMI/DP/USB-C inputs). Pair Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and you have a desktop. The phone is powerful enough to actually be used like this - except I really never had the need at home but I'd like to think I could do it when away on a trip - except finding monitors with USB-C inputs in the wild is still probably a mission...

NikT:

mahdibassam: Much appreciated, hit all the points I was wondering about. I'm gonna pull the trigger and get one!

Just wondering are you guys at PB Tech able to price matxj with noel Leeming who are doing it for 1249? I work across the street from the Penrose branch and van pop in tomorrow.

I'm sure the Penrose team will be happy to help. Looks like Noels are selling at full RRP $1499 to me though?

Damn it! Noel were doing 1249 but it ended yesterday. Now its back up to 1499. thats just too much. i can get an S10 for that much :(

One thing I've noticed before and had it confirmed last night: regardless of settings I can't use Huawei devices to reliably setup IoT devices that need WiFi... I will explain.

Take Ring Stick Up Cam for example (got one here yesterday). You turn the camera on and it starts broadcasting a temporary WiFi AP. You have to start the up, it will automatically connect to the AP, ask the credentials for the WiFI SSID you want it to use and transfer it. Once done, disconnect from that AP and connect back to your standard WiFi.

Huawei OS won't do it. Simply won't. I had this problem with other two Ring devices and had this same problem with two Amazon Echo.

In both cases I used a different device (a Nokia for the Amazon Echo and an OPPO for the Ring Stick Up cam) to be able to conduct the pairing.

Interesting .. I have the same problem with my 6p and the HP OfficeConnect APs - wonder if it is something to do with ad-hoc WiFi networks

This was an annoyance, but was hoping it would go away with a new phone - unfortunately if i settle on a huawei, it doesn't look like it will

This is not a huawei issue, it's an andriod 9 issue.

wifi polling is stupidly limited now.

Mostly is noted as affecting wifi scanning, but if you look into IoT, you will find it's hit by the same issue.

If you disable Mobile Data it acts differently. Try that.

Kia Ora,

Just a quick question please. Can anyone tell me how the Samsung Galaxy watch works with Mate 20pro? I'm looking at getting the new Galaxy Active when it arrives in NZ shortly. I had it in the back of my mind that the Galaxy watch doesn't have all functions for a non Samsung Android phone. Anyone with experience in this?

I don't know if it will actually work? Galaxy watch uses Tizen and needs it's own app or a samsung phone is what I thought?

I am trying to get Huawei GT watch from Aussie if someone is travelling so I can use that instead :)

I think I'm finally going to bite the bullet and retire my last MS phone (Windows) for the Mate 20 Pro.  I currently use a MS Band 2 smart watch - what is compatible with the Mate 20 pro and what is recommended?  I'm hoping Garmin...

I have the Huawei P20 Pro and a Garmin Fenix 5 and they work together fine once I changed the power saving options for the Garmin Connect App. I would assume the Mate 20 would be the same.

Remember Microsoft is shutting down the Microsoft Health dashboard so your Microsoft Band is going to be useless from now on anyway.

Thanks guys.  Picked it up about an hour ago.  Liking it so far.  Great to know it works with Garmin (I have other Garmin devices so I already know my way around in general).  I'm going to need a new phone wallet - accessory shopping time!
