I also waited the 256Gb SD card, and noelleeming don't have exact explanations with regards to the sdcard. Initially when pick-up, they told me that it's on the box but when opened there was none. On the next day, salesman told me that they run out of it as already sold the stock (what?), then contacted them again but no avail for the main reason.

But in terms of the phone very impressed about it: nice camera, display is superb and very responsive.

If you pre-ordered and paid for the phone with the understanding that it included the micro SD card then they are obliged to supply it. My understanding is they are on backorder. The product description by the phone did say "while stocks last" but I specifically asked at the time of purchase.

Hey guys, I've got the option to buy an S8 for about $750 (with a bunch of Flybuys points cover the rest) on the Flybuys website.

Seriously considering this phone as a replacement to my Nexus 6, just wondering has anyone ordered from Flybuys before? The website says they would courier to me but U thought you usually picked up from a Noel Leeming store?
Also would you have any idea what carrier firmware might be on it? (Is there a generic or non-branded NZ one I could install?)

Also how are you all finding the S8 after a few weeks? Is it not too Samsungy with bloatware etc? Can it be easily changed with custom launchers etc to reduce the Samsungness?

It will probably be a Spark branded one but you can install the unbranded Aussie firmware, which the NZ ones use as a base.

Samsung bloat really isn't an issue these days. I've come to really like the latest edition of Samsungs skin. It isn't over the top and ugly like the old ones. And as with all Androids you can install another launcher and there are apps that will allow you to uninstall or freeze any unwanted stuff.

Best phone I've ever had hand's down. I've owned 20+ different Android ones and this is a keeper.

Frankly there is no more bloatware on an S8 than there is on the average iPhone. The difference is that most users of an iPhone will add all the Google apps etc themselves and Samsung do it for you.

I've actually found some of the Samsung stuff to be very useful - the Spam filter on phone calls is something Apple don't offer and it has so far worked well. No idea how it works - it's like magic - but it does work.

I think it's a really nice implementation of software - looks smart and modern, works well and I see no appreciable difference between iOS and this in user terms aside from the lack of built in integration with iCloud and so on.

I understand earlier Samsung (and Android in general) phones could be a bit of a mess but this one isn't IMV.

Have you installed XSA on your S8? Just wondering if that means you have installed a custom recovery and rooted it as well. Or can you just use Odin to flash a stock rom? I want to know if you retain fingerprint and iris scanning and face unlock after tripping Knox.
I have managed to use some workarounds with Tasker and AutoInput to be able to remotely toggle data and airplane mode but I feel constrained and still probably have to root at some stage. The bank I use doesn't offer samsung or android pay, so not worried about that, but Google's move to lock out rooted phones from apps and services could become a concern.
I know google limited third party access to data, gps and airplane mode for security reasons but it would be great if the user could individually allow access on a case by case basis. Even if they put it in the developer section because the average Joe isn't even going to activate that section.

No you don't need to root or flash a recovery to flash a stock firmware. Odin is all you need. So Knox is still intact etc.

Honestly I have no need to root phones any more, the S7 was the first one I didn't root. I used to mostly do it for app backup/restore or debloating. Samsung Cloud makes that moot now and things just aren't bloated like they used to be.

Also with the Knox flag unable to be reset once tripped and Google implementing newer root/unlock checks it just isn't worth it anymore.

Yes, I am fast coming to the same conclusion. At the moment AutoInput is providing what I need, I didn't bother with a custom recovery on my S6. Just wanted access to data/airplane modes and the ability to kill apps. Now that I also have a Gear S3 I am a bit disappointed that Samsung haven't taken the opportunity to 'value add' the combination by having the watch control a few things on the phone over and above the 'find my phone' function. I have suggested a few things to Samsung in their feature request forum, but if their firmware update reputation is anything to go by it may be possible with the S11/Gear S5 combo.

And my camera issue came back this morning after applying the OTA update the other day. So just cleared the phone cache to see if that fixes it.
