lokhor: I'm worried mine is going to die soon and since I bought it on 31/05/2012 I don't think they will cover it after 1 year is up.

Ignore manufacturer warranty periods, just return it to where you bought it from and quote the Consumer Guarantees Act.

I got mine from DSE, are they usually pretty good at dealing with that?

It hasn't actually died yet but it has started rebooting spontaneously..

I would hope that DSE know about the CGA and their obligations under it.  You could try returning your phone now and tell them it's rebooting all by itself.  Otherwise just wait until it dies and then return it.

After seeing this tread about the SGS3 I think I'll go for the HTC One rather than the SGS4..

The HTC One already has reports of some coming with a defective camera lens. I'd hope that Samsung have learnt a lesson from the SGS3 SDS and will prevent it from happening to the SGS4.

Sounds like Samsung will look after you even if your warranty has expired.

If you are one of the unlucky ones whose Samsung Galaxy S III has crossed over, Samsung says not to worry, the company will take care of you.

I find it interesting how they say a small number of users, I know so many people who had been affected by this that it's not funny.

Well given they are supposed to have sold 40 million odd they may be correct in what they say.

The article is a bit old now anyway.

Thus far I have been lucky and had no issues at all (touch wood), I have a second battery so never really plugged phone in directly so that may have something to do with it.

I'm surprised there are still phones falling over maybe they haven't had a firmware update or were too far gone

I've started seeing lots of issues with my S3 (has the dodgy chip). Running the latest 2degrees 4.1.2 update I've started seeing random shutdowns that require the battery to be removed to restart the phone and have had a couple of occasions where the phone hangs on reboot and requires the battery to be removed once again.

I'm going to try a factory reset first as this hasn't been done after the last few updates, but suspect it's the early signs of sudden death which many others have reported.

sounds very much like it although if it has the latest firmware the shutdowns can be the fix rectifying the problem and if left for 15-20 minutes can restart but if its too far gone its just a matter of time.

Fingers crossed

Mine has also started doing this, primarily when I take photos or try to view photos in the gallery :/ going to try flashing the latest Wanamlite rom tonight and see if that helps.

Mine was giving this issue around late last year and after the 4.1.1 update the random reboots stopped and I was under the impression that my phone has passed the 250days threshold and also got the update (which many people said would fix the issue).

But just now having read that someone who bought it on launch day had it failed just now, I am now quite worried that mine can fail anytime as well..

Has anyone else's SGS3 failed even after the 4.1.1 update..?

I'm pretty sure it's the 4.1.2 update that fixes it, 4.1.1 still has the sudden death bug.
