I'll be pretty surprised if in 2017 you are getting flagships with crap battery life. Everything is battery life. Very few people care more about performance than battery life. I am happy if I can get 10 hours at a time from my phone if I use it moderately heavily, but I couldn't even get that when I tripped around Europe and did gaming, looked up reviews and used the GPS from time to time with some calling/texting/emailing.

Forget about remapping the Bixby button without root. A pre launch firmware upgrade has apparently removed the ability to do that. The annoying bit is Bixby isn't even going to work at launch and probably not for the foreseeable future in this part of the world. So pushing the button will just produce a news feed type assistant, a bit like Blinkfeed in HTC phones did (and the first feature I turned off).

Somebody who has the latest update to their S8 over on XDA confirms they can still remap the button. The current theory being kicked around is that it is a carrier variant thing.

Damn, it looks like the handsets are $100 more than the S7 models at launch. $1299 for the S8. $1499 for the plus.

When is launch? I have a friend who says he has one already in his hot little hands. I thought they released globally?

Probably some cost recovery added for the Note 7 debacle ...

Pre-orders begin friday. Haven't been released anywhere yet. Carriers already have them here though. I also have one right now in my hot little hands.

Noel Leeming and others are taking pre-orders from tomorrow the 20th

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

IIRC the model they reviewed was the US model so it'll be interesting to see whether there is some noticeable difference between the US and international model (the IM version uses Samsung's own SoC).

Preorders tomorrow but its ridiculous how none of the carriers have given an actual ship date yet.

Care to share with us what your source is on the carriers having them here? and how you have one?

Working on the launch for one of the carriers. They've had the handsets for a couple of weeks, but only just had a chance to play with it today.

Pricing is all on the hush hush. I don't even know what they're pricing they're plans at yet.

Actually got the handset price from PB Tech. That's where I'll be placing my pre-sale order tomorrow morning.

Over the years, I've read enough pre-order posts from ghosts of new releases past, to have come to the conclusion that you are better off to avoid pre-ordering.

In a week or two there will be the inevitable posts ... can I cancel my pre-order as Shop X has not been able to fill it, cannot give a date when stock will be due, but Shop Y has stock on hand, or Shop Z is $200 cheaper than my pre-order ... etc etc
