Work phone, so has to be from the hardware fund at VF.

So I can have my choice of 25 models of Samsung, or a Huawei (has to be android for app dev / demo)

Got reply from Huawei NZ on Facebook. They confirm Android 7 for P9 P9+ and P9 lite will come on Q4 2017.

It's late but at least it is coming. (In mainland China it is so much faster)

Thanks for the update! Yep, I have major OS envy when my NZ sourced P9 is sitting next to my wife's China sourced P9 that updated itself to Android 7 as soon as we took it out of the box... >.<

Well here's hoping - I'll believe it when I see it. Surely it's got to come via the carriers/telcos once Huawei release it, right?

As I said earlier, my P9+ will be my first and only Huawei - not impressed even though I quite like the phone.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

There are two reasons why I am ditching Samsung as my phone brand when I replace S7: slow OS updates and the fragility of glass-backed phones.

The Samsung P10 or successor was high on my list as replacement option, but now no longer (unless they significantly up their game for OS updates).

I wonder if Huawei sales are going to be damaged by the number of people electing to look to other brands when it comes time to replacing their Huawei handset; I know GZ doesn't provide a representative sample of phone users, but certainly many on here have stated they'll not be buying another Huawei, many of these for the reason of a lack of updates.

My wife and I are on earlier generation Huawei phones - the P8 and Mate 8 respectively - neither of which have received much in the way of updates (my Mate's still on Android 6.0/EMUI 4.0/last Android patch March 16!). While there's firmware available for other versions of the phones, that's not the case for NZ-sourced phones.

It's very unlikely I'll be buying a Huawei next time - partly due to this updates issue, but also the other matters raised by others here, namely over-eager battery management that's difficult to tame, and app/device incompatibility (eg, trying to get a Gear S2 to function fully; LastPass app crashing every time its opened etc).

And somehow they managed to break Android Auto on the P9+ (well, the ability to connect it to my car) with a long wait for an update to fix

Nokia 6110, 6210, 6234, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, Huawei Ideos X5 (Windows Mobile), Samsung Galaxy SIII, LG G4, OnePlus 5, iPhone Xs Max (briefly), S21 Ultra. And I thought I hadn't had many phones - but the first one around 1997.

Hard to tell as she's only recently got the phone - haven't noticed any significant difference as yet. IMHO a lot of the NZ vs overseas phone network performance is related to different frequency band support - if the device doesn't support all the NZ bands in use by each provider then strange things can happen. As far as I can tell in the case of the P9 the band support is the same between the NZ and China sourced device, so I'm not expecting any performance differences.

If you are staying with Android, what brand are you looking to?

If I was replacing today, I would probably go for a Sony XZ

Slightly more info would be very useful. What exactly is being updated (Android OS, EMUI overlay,...?), how is it coming to you/what carrier are you with etcetera.
