Definitely the best option at the moment

Until 4G is really prevalent in your area its only going to destroy battery life

Hell we don't even get 3g in most of Tauranga -_-

so the exynos will ace tge snapdrsgon in terms of both performance and battery ... best of both worlds

networkn: So what I found interesting is that today I went out and whilst I had 4G Coverage I was basically draining battery before my eyes, so I dropped to 24% after only discharging perhaps 1-3% overnight. I think I'll opt out of my 4G right now as speedtests have shown that perhaps 1 in 20 speed tests are above what I was getting without due to DC and with it having such a significant impact on battery I'd rather have extra life than speed.

Reports on xda saying the Exynos octa has been poorly or inefficiently implemented and isn't providing any noticeable real world perf increase or benefits over the Snapdragon variant.

This 'could' change but requires some rather big changes to Android.

bradstewart: Not bad at all. I'm getting about 30 hours and 5.5 - 6 hours screen time on my HTC One.

I use a minimum of 4 hours screen time a day, every day, not to mention 8 hours of podcasts or music per day where the screen is off. I couldn't live without a spare or extended battery as I work somewhere where it can't be plugged in.
This made the HTC One a no-hope-in-hell option... that and using the Sensation for 9 months... :-/

my s3 has the Mugen-power 4600mAh battery and when they make one for the s4, it'll get the same. Currently have a spare factory battery on order (due in 2 weeks).

From what I have read, Linaro are working on a new/better cpu scheduler for the exynos octa to implement core migration the way big.LITTLE architecture is supposed to work. Theoretically Samsung will be able to apply this in an updated kernel, and if/when they do, it will push the octa core further ahead of the snapdragon.

I would imagine it would improve battery life more so than performance as it will allow any combination of 4 cores, a7 or a15, rather than the current cluster migration setup of either 4x a7 or 4x a15. This is the main issue that people on xda are talking about.

In terms of getting more than 4 cores going at a time, (which is another subject again) this would require an update to the linux kernel before it can be implemented in android.

Looking forward to seeing what xda devs can come up with and how soon they will have the core migration setup before Samsung lol

Got my S4 today :-) just found that Swype is no longer included like on my S2

Also does anyone know how to transfer Wifi network and blue-tooth data and passwords for the s2 to the s4?

4G rolling out in canterbury soon i think - The RBI modems are being changed from 3G to 4G versions at present - maybe just future proofing but it does give me hope :)

When I logged into my S4 it asked if I wanted to restore and it automagically copied the Wifi network setup over.

I can't remember if I picked some sort of "cloud backup" option on my old phone that enabled this.

Swype is out of beta and now a paid app in the Play Store if you want it (was on new release sale last week, not sure if still on sale). Swiftkey also worth looking into.

I would support Swiftkey as well. Having said that, the default android keyboard (at least the one in the nexus) is really nice as well. I would prefer to stick with that if it wasnt for swiftkey

I agree with this. Swype has better swyping, but swiftkey better predictions.

Ops just found that the keyboard does have the same kind of features as swype anyway :-) just needed to tick the box saying "Continuous input"
