I am thinking of selling my Telecom XT SGS and upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus.
I currently run Darky's Rom 10.2.2 , 2.3.4 and JL2 modem for 850MHz.

If I wanted to downgrade this to stock how would I go about it?

I did download what I think is the Froyo TNZ rom from XDA, but going from gingerbread back to froyo would this be tricky? Or just Odin the Froyo firmware with re-partition?

Is there gingerbread stock Telecom rom for SGS i9000T?

I recently used Fus Downloader (V 2.1 exe) to get the official TNZ Rom for the i9000T. Just download the file and flash via Odin. Works like a dream. Just remember to remove any lagfixes etc just incase.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that it is a GB ROM.

Thanks defragger! Used this to get the stock firmware for the 9100T for Telecom.

Just an update on my phone for anyone who is interested.

As many of you have may have read before, my SGS has been having problems of losing network service since I got it almost a year ago, with the only way of getting it back is to restart the phone. Sent it away once and ran fine for a few months, then the same problem. Sent it away again a few weeks back and got it back today. The report shows they couldn't find the problem but did some tests and re-flashed it back to 2.1 Eclair and remade the antenna contacts. Sweet. I updated it back to GB stock via Kies thinking things should be fine.

So what happens, the phone loses signal AGAIN. Less than 6 hours after I get it back. I am really over this phone now. Will be taking it back to Telecom tomorrow and asking for a straight up replacement I think. I really can't be bothered sending the phone away for a third time for EXACTLY THE SAME problem. I know it's not the sim-card as this has been replaced before so definitely a faulty phone of some sort. Gaah!

thats a gay experience. bin it and order a galaxy nexus - thats what im doing anyway. im even swayed a bit by Meego's implementation on the N9, it looks amazing .. imagine going back to a Nokia, it will be like going full circle :)

luckily my particular SGS has served me well over the time ive owned it. thoroughly impressed with the level of community support and enhancements that have been brought to this handset - very cool - and gives me faith that apples closed system (despite working better because of the screening process for apps etc) is still not the way to go.

hope you get something next that makes you totally forget your signal losing experience. :)

anyone still interested in their SGS? or have you guys given up the modification urge, and are off to a new device? :)

i dont blame ya, ive had my SGS over a year now and im off to NYC for xmas and hoping to grab a Galaxy Nexus or a Note as my next plaything... undecided as to what to get. the Nexus has a more reasonable day-to-day size, still phone-like, and of course is the ICS hero. but i use my camera alot, and the imager on the NExus isnt that wonderful. the plasticky build is also a concern, from reviews.

then theres the Note, with its amazing screen and resolution, and the pen option. i dont make calls as much as i use my phone for internet on the go, so i dont care about having to hold a 5.3" device to my face... but then is 5.3" in hand too much even for day to day one handed browsing?? dont know till its in hand and actually using it to txt or navigate menus. running GB is also a temporary downer till ICS comes out, so theres the added impatience of waiting for that to happen.

what would you guys choose between those two, as current SGS owners??

meanwhile ive decided to move on from "Simplicity" rom's random instability, and flashed to GingerReal2 1.1.9, and Semaphore kernel 1.9.0 - underclocked back to 1000mhz, but on smartassv2 governer, and enhanced touchscreen sensitivity - result is much better snappiness, much lighter touch needed, and battery life is amazing! the ICS themed dialer is nice too, so i decided to follow on with the ICS theme. it looks nice to me :)

made my own combo clock using "micro clock" widget overlaid with "Circle Battery", using ADWex launcher. works well.

I got my SGS back last week after a third round of repairs. They changed the PBA (which I think is the main board on the phone). So far so good. Haven't had any issues with it dropping signal. Was on stock GB so took the plunge into the world of MIUI today, running the MintBerry Edition and so far I am liking it. The UI is drastically different from all the Samsung Roms I have installed over past year - it's like having a new phone.

I think the Galaxy Nexus is a good looking phone with some nice features, but after reading a few reviews, it still isn't amazing and quite underwhelming. I would rather get an SGS2 and wait till ICS is ported which should be soon enough. The Note does look pretty good and the screen seems to be just practical enough. But yeah you would have to have a look at one yourself before deciding.

Personally, I will be sticking with my SGS until it fails again, or until something amazing is out (probably the SGS3).

Also on a sidenote, what is the best/stable modem for Telecom atm?

you know id have to agree on the nexus having some degree of underwhelmingness.

i think, if you took away ICS, and just looked at the phone, other than the HD screen what else is there...? NFC which cant be useful right this moment, underpowered camera, and plasticky finish. oh and reviewers are all saying the external speaker is underpowered also.

the Note has amazing battery life, just as good if not better a screen, faster dual core processor, and will be getting ICS eventually... better cameras... its just the size thing.

sigh i dunno, i was really set on the nexus until all the reviews started coming in... like you ill be holding on to the SGS until i figure it out..

ps: ive been running UGKG3 modem on XT for months now, its been very good. im not sure if there is a successor but its definitely good nonetheless.

pps: after i got my galaxy tab 8.9 i thought id abandon my SGS and do most of my browsing etc on the tab - found this to be not true, i am using both devices equally even while both are in the house, and of course when i go out, the SGS gets all the use. its not as powerful and struggles with large full size websites, but it seems that it follows the "best camera" rule as well, "the best camera you have is the one on you when you need to take a photo"

its this realisation that makes me lean towards HD large screen devices that arent tablets, but are not far off... hence the attraction to the HD screens of the NExus and the Note. if the Note delivers an exceptional browsing experience, i may end up abandoning the 8.9 altogether, the ultimate irony after waiting for it for 9months!!! bloody hell

Still trying new ROMS occasionally. Switched from CM7 to Simplicity a few weeks ago, I think on your recommendation :-) It has been nice, but yes does crash at random times. So GingerReal I should try next?

Simplicity was optimised with tons of scripts etc so it ran well, but it did random things like freezing when waking the phone to unlock... the phone.apk would crash after hanging up a call, sometimes my browser would freeze also. it only started happening after i had the ROM running a few weeks so i dont know what caused it, but yeah, it was getting unreliable.

ive had gingerreal about a week now? its very fast, and so far not one freeze. ill post as soon as it does stuff up, but other wise assume no news is great news :D

I am absolutely loving MIUI. Running MintBerry with MintBolt! scripts and it is absolutely flying. Probably the most responsive my phone has been ever. For those who are still on Samsung based Roms, definitely try this out. Love how easy it is to apply themes on this, and how you can mix and match different themes to create your own unique one. Kinda falling in love with this phone all over again :P

In saying that I will be in Malaysia/Singapore next week so might look into a few phones there and see if any tickle my fancy :D

Well, reports of the ICS builds for the SGS were looking pretty good, so I took the plunge and went from Darky 10.2.2 to the teamhacksung ICS port build 9 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363593

Overall it is looking pretty good, things are very responsive, and the new UI looks very sharp. The only feature currently not working that I am missing is video recording (not missing it enough that I'll flash back though).

I have never done any modem flashing before and am wondering if I should do so. Currently the baseband says it is I9000XXJVK

- I assume this did not get changed as part of the ICS flash, correct?

- Is this the modem people currently find best for VF NZ?

I've found all the 2.3 roms on XDA to be rubbish tbh. All heavily themed with flaws.

Using Tornado rom/kernel over at GTO developers cave. Really stable with ful access to UV/OC. Comes extremely light and you basically install what you need. No voodoo colour but his kernel includes its own colour fixes.

I've also tried beta 2 of onesomics ICS build. After using it for 2 days I found that the phone had got progressively laggy to the point of unusable. Build 9 of alpha- CM9 may be significantly improved? I found ext-sd was fairly buggy and that the lack of hardware acceleration for videos really annoyed me so I went back to gingerbread.

I'm looking at upgrading as I've had my phone a year now. The SGS is a great device, what I'm mainly searching for is faster browser render speeds, more ram and HD screen. Running out of ram and lagging up the device is my biggest gripe with the SGS. I don't think I could use anything other than a SAMOLED now.

Basically I was looking at the Galaxy Nexus or Note. The size of the note doesn't really concern me but both have their pros and cons.

Aesthetically, the Nexus appeals to me a lot more. Most of the issues such as mono audio recording in videos, brightness issues and lack of usb storage can be fixed with custom firmware. Browser speeds are good due to ICS. My question really is the camera which I'm not crazy about but still use reguarly. Also the OMAP 4460 is nothing special. Oh and no expandable memory! 16gb may be enough but if I go travelling, won't be enough room for movies and music.

The Note has a bigger screen which would be great to me as I watch a lot of movies but it pulls the PPI down a lot. From reviews, the browsing experience is not even as good as the S2 which is a little concerning but ICS will probably improve that a lot. The Note is so similar to my SGS I almost would feel like I didn't upgrade.

Can't decide whether to get one of either or to wait for new chipsets next year!

Helping my sister in law to flash her SGS to latest Gingerbread, she is still on Eclair 2.1, yes, 2.1.

I remember reading somewhere that you cannot flash 2.3 straight from 2.1 and that you had to flash 2.2 first then flash 2.3, is this correct?

How are you find this rom ? hows the battery life ?.
I would be keen to give it a go ~ currently using Milkys 1.3 rom and while its good, i feel it could still be better especially in the battery department.

to upgrade to GB you will need to
1) use ODIN to flash a base GB rom that includes bootloaders, like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991792

2) flash a telecom XT compatible modem, either UGJL2 (older) or UGKC1 (newer), both have been tried, tested and proven to be very good with XT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391

at this point youre done, running a plain vanilla gingerbread rom. if you then want to flash a CUSTOM GB rom, you can choose from any of the multitude of roms on the XDA forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=665
simple rule of thumb, if its on page 1 or 2 its being actively used and worked on - if its on page 3 or further, dont bother.

it seems the most recommended ones are Juwes Rom, Simply Honey, Darky's, etc. but i would get used to plain vanilla GB before you start farting around with custom kernels and whatnot

Sorry prolly a silly question but.....

I have a i9000gsmh - vodafone galaxy.

Its been rooted and busybox, superuser and CWM are installed

I want to use it on the XT network - so have used odin to reflash the phone (modem) to either UKGC1 and UGL2 - have then ensured cdma 850mhz band (v) is enabled with *#*#0011#*

However I get no service on the 850mhz band.

With the vodafone modem (srjv1) it gets service on the gsm900 band

Do I need to flash the actual PDA ROM as well? Just thought id ask the q before I do it - just a tad hesitant encase I cant get it back to stock
