Lambchop: so i picked up a telecom s4 today - has any one rooted yet and NOT have a custom status result from it?

i'm gonna hold off until that's confirmed .... no one knows yet how stuff like knox is effected ..

A few pages back I linked to a few posts that I used to root mine. It has left me with a Samsung Official Binary and Official system status. And whilst it checks for updates fine, I can't say if it'll install them yet but the consensus on xda that I read was that it'd install them fine but it would remove root in the process.

Where did you buy it from?

Not going to mention the company as it was a honest mistake and they are getting it swapped for me. I think they were sent the wrong ones and did not realise.

Evidently there are some other Korea-specific tweaks in place on the SHV E300. It's limited to 80 characters on a txt, and other changes specific for Korean infrastructure - that might make it less-desirable for other places. I'm also not sure if the 1800 Mhz LTE implemented in Korea is any different than that in NZ? It wouldn't be quite as simple as putting hands on the Korean version and it being the 9505 with the Octocore.

Ok so I have what may turn out to be a dumb question, I don't have time right now to research into it, hoping someone here might have an issue.

On the lockscreen if I swipe the edge of the screen it moves to a strange window, the purpose of which I am unsure of. Also if I get notifications like a text message etc, I can't open it from there. There is also supposed to be a preview mode where you hover your finger over the screen, and I see a dot on the lockscreen that moves but I can't make it preview anything.

Ultimately I just want a standard lockscreen and preferably not one that takes ages to unlock!

The extra screen you're seeing is due to 4.2.2 having the ability to have lock screen widgets. Now for some reason Samsung has made their lock screen work differently to vanilla, but that's what you're seeing.

Hover to preview is only available on select apps and the lock screen isn't one I don't believe. If you enable it you can try it out in the gallery.

You can open from there, tap on the message and an empty box shows up, swipe to unlock in that box and it will open in the message app.

if you swipe left to right from the edge in the lock screen you get a "+" to add your own widget there, if you go right to left, you get whatever option you set on the "lock screen" page in your settings (favourite apps or camera)

I totally agree! But that's the way 4.2 works... It's the same on the nexus 7 and has taken some getting used to.
I actually just swipe down the notifications bar and get to it from there.
