Asmodeus: Hi guys,
I have just acquired a Galaxy S i9000 but the bloody thing keeps rebooting and crashing all the time. I'm an Android noob so bear with me here...
The phone came bare bones from Vodafone with android 2.2 on it. but kept crashing whenever I started an app or opened the contacts list or did anything basically. after rebooting, the offending app or function would then work but the next one I tried would crash it. I tried factory reset, etc but no joy.
I plugged it into Kies and updted it to the latest firmware that Kies had available. This didn't change my crashing problem. Same issues
I then updated to Android 2.3.6 using Odin. Now the thing keeps crashing but instead of rebooting it freezes requiring me to take the battery out to restart it. Not good. I've tried uninstalling all my apps, etc but it makes no difference. Even opening the contacts or writing a text does it.
So my question to you is, should I bother trying ICS 4.0 or rooting/romming the phone or does it sound like it's faulty to you? Nothing I've done so far has helped :(
Please let me know your thoughts! Cheers!!!
nofam: Can you boot into recovery and clear the cache/do a factory reset? You may have some residual issues from old ROMs

I've tried that several times mate, both before and after I updated the firmware . The battery is also draining fast now too, not even lasting the day...

When you flashed 2.3.6 with Odin, did you use a PIT file to re-partition? This is the best option if you're having issues. . . . just make sure you read up on what you're doing first! ;-)
david522: I can highly recommend Slim ICS + a kernel with hugeram config.
In the last 2 weeks, ICS for SGS has seen a semi break through with huge ram kernels bringing up available ram from around 340mb to 380mb whilst breaking nothing. I previously used CM9/Team ICSSGS and they simply don't compare to Slim ICS in terms of speed.
