One thing I would like to know would be if this rom on the VFNZ One is for VFNZ or the same supplied to tcom? Won't know till we see a VFNZ supplied unit ..ie Sammy do carrier specific roms. What I'm wondering is if the LTE radio has it been modded for VFNZ especially as VFNZ have LTE 700 trial under way so would that mean a software radio update for the One later on in the future??? I'm just forward thinking here hence why I'm buying a VFNZ One.

I haven't really seen any carrier customisationsso far. I set it up without a SIM card.

When I did put the SIM in the telecom shortcuts and music store appeared but that was the extent of it.

It does have a Telecom specific modem with LTE disabled but replacing that shouldn't be too hard.

Edited for typos.

Are you certain the 4G capability is disabled???
So that means if I buy a handset from telecom, and I use it overseas it wont have 4G connectivity because Telecom have disabled it??.. that sucks big time.

There are no 4G options available on the phone and the hardware does support it so yes it is disabled.

As early stated in the thread after confirmation from Telecom they will be enabling it once their LTE network starts going live.

... and that's why NL and TWL appear to be selling the Telecom flavour cheaper than the VF?

I have absolutely no insight into the marketing strategies of those companies. You'd have to ask them.

I think that is wrong for Telecom to disable this sort of stuff. If I am not mistaken, they also decided to disable 4G for Lumia 920 in the newer update. Lucky they did not disable the 4G in my xperia Z! If they did, I would definitely return the phone at once!

Why would they disable LTE in the HTC One and not the Xperia Z? Odd...

maybe they don't want you to pop another telco sim in there and use 4G ????  but as it as a TC modem you would have to change the radio and possibly the rom if you wanted to move networks.

eracode: I have just been talking to the likely stockists here in the Auckland CBD. Noel Leemings and The Warehouse both have the same story - due early/mid next week - $1,149 for VF and $999 for XT.

However, Dick Smith are saying "$969 - $30 discount". I asked if that was a 4G/LTE model and they said 'yep'. Went up to talk to The Warehouse then went back to DSE and asked them to double-check and they are adamant that it's 4G/LTE. They say it's an unlocked model and will work on any carrier. Also confirmed 32GB silver/white.

This sounds almost too good to me. Anyone have any thoughts before I go back and pre-order with a 10% deposit?

So if I get it from DSE, 4g will work on any carrier? (once telecom allows 4g, that is).
I see parallel imported and pb tech also has unlock version available.
I wonder if these "unlock" phones support different band frequencies for both VF and telecom 4g.
Any ideas?

tankzor: You might be able to get it cheaper at NL? I went in and said I'd order 2 if they gave me 20% off (same as easter sale), and they did it without a thought (so got it for $799).

Went to NL at Riccarton Mall and The Palms in Christchurch.

1. Riccarton only willing to take $50 off each phone when I offered to buy 2
2. The Palms said at best they can only do $920.00 each when I offered to buy 2 (potentially lower if I bought their crappy extended warranty).

Funny at Riccarton the guy had to ask his manager, then add The Palms the guy just put in some number on the computer and said $920 (he's not the manager).

My question is how did you persuaded them into offering the 20% off.

I must be a poor negotiator

If you buy an unlocked phone then how do you get updates to newer versions of Android? Where do they come from?
