jeffnz: I prefer Nova myself but pretty similar, don't think I've had TW for very long on any of my galaxy's

I actually lived with TW on the s3. But I used ADW on my sensation because Sense sucked sooo badly.

I just want a straight pull down lock screen. Like they had on the old HTC's.

I swipe when there's no notifications, and when there are, I pull down the notification bar and go straight to it.

I might go a custom ROM in a month.

not much around in the way of custom Roms but I see Indie has an omega one out for both versions.

I thought the phone had a locked bootloader?
Doesn't that prevent fully custom roms?

Mines rooted and there's already a custom recovery for it.

I've also flashed another tar from the same thread to make it all look official again.

Thanks, just rooted mine, but I used triangle away to remove the count.
Nice, I didn't realise triangle away worked.

Just looked at it again, it removes the count, but the status shows as custom. Oh well...

EDIT: flashed that other file and it still says custom..

can anyone tell me if rooting with this method alter the kernel in any way other than gaining root access and superuser and cmw recovery?

my phone works so well i dont want it to suddenly crash or drain battery but i want to titanium restore all my stuff!

You'll have to install super SU... it wasn't there after the reboot so I got it from the play store. I didn't do the custom recovery.
I've had no issues with battery drain or or crashes at all.

why would you wanna go with a custom rom on the S4 ... :/ .. you loose the best camera in the market doing that .. not to mention watchon etc .. sbeam .....

custom roms are good to bring out of date phones that have been left behind by the manufacturer .. but yeh, not the flagship galaxy ..

can't get over how much more life i'm getting out of this battery than i did on my s3 ... crazy good ..

Lots of the custom ROMs are based on stock firmwares, so you lose nothing and get a variety of potentially helpful tweaks. To be honest I've only ever used based-on-stock custom ROMs on my Galaxy devices.
