Anybody else going from SGS3-One?

If im putting $1K on a phone what features does the One have over the SGS3 that make it worth $1k? I would be selling my SGS3 and would likely get $500 or so, so really the phone is only going to cost me $500.

1080p screen, front facing speakers, better camera. What else? :)

Plenty of comparisons online. Build quality is one of the pluses, as well as Sense (some love it, some don't).

Just performed a factory reset. The HTC Backup/restore feature is fantastic. Selected it during the setup wizard and in a couple of mins all my accounts and settings were back the way I had them.

Can't believe Google don't have something like this.

Yes, I am going from s3 to One.

For me it was a combination of factors.

the S4 failed to impress me. I wanted to like it, but

besides a nicer screen and more ram, I just kept seeing it as a Galaxy S 3+. It was like they pulled an Apple - minimal effort in innovation, just a bump in specs, and we are supposed to be going mental over it. Meh. Infact, the s4 could be summed up as Meh. Before I saw the One, I was going to stick with my S3 for a while. Maybe look at the new Nexus, that's about it.
Bloatware is getting worse from the samsung.
Samsung is getting a bit to big for it's boots I think. A bit Apple-like.
Plastic again................... Yeah, i know, it has certain advanatges - more shock absorbent, cheaper, transparent to RF, etc but. Well, boring...
13 meg camera is fine. In well lit, still environments. But you'll NEED that sd card, the photos are going to be 4 or 5 megabytes? a piece.
Is the screen too big? Probably not, but it's getting close. I always use my phone two handed, so it's not that I mean - but the bigger and thinner your sheet of glass, the easier it breaks. Flexible screens will fix that, but they aren't here yet.
Another crappy little speaker. ON THE BACK, crissake! Again!
The small home button on the s3 annoyed me slightly to. I see they did it again.
The s3 SDS balls up left a sour taste in my mouth (and the s2 before it had some similar probs iirc). What's it going to be in the s4? Maybe the One will have problems too, but I think samsung is getting slack.

The HTC One has a number of improvements -

I like the idea of a metal phone; nice feel, durable, good looking. Not too interested in the black one - I do not believe for one minute you'll keep that paint intact for long. Then it'll look rough. The silver though is good - silver all the way through.
proper, loud stereo speakers was a big draw (I'm really sick of the tinny little speakers samsung keeps putting in their phones - my partners 3 year old xperia is WAY better there).
I was surprised to find the HTC microphones are WAAAY superior also, producing some of the best phone recorded sounds I have EVER heard.
A low light camera. I'm really tired of having photo's inside come out dingy and grainy. I seldom print out a photo, and i doubt I'd have trouble with a 4 megapixel one anyway. I was also impressed that the ONE's camera comes with gyroscopes for image stabilization I think this might be a first for a smartphone???
Wasn't too keen on the lack of SD card or removable battery. But then again, I never needed a new battery for the s3 (I generally replace my phone each year), and my 32gig sd card, while nice, is quarter full. I've been playing with scheduled backs too, because SD cards do not last forever, and also phones get lost or stolen. So, I'm giving no sd card a go.
I'm a bit over the AMOLED hype. Seems like a lot of other people are too. I think LCD has caught up.

Having said all that, if the ONE hadn't appeared I'd likely go with the s4 if the next Nexus was sad. Maybe a xepria Z (didn't like the glass on the back though - too much to break too easy).
I'm not against the s4. Great machine. But you know what? I think HTC has hit a home run this time. Samsung has sat on it's fat arse thinking it's untouchable, and HTC has flanked them.

I just hope HTC doesn't do something stupid to Fcuk it up. Like, say, poor internals. Or buggy/slow updates.

Still, if we don't support the competition when they do something good, Samsung will become Apple.

In my opinion, the HTC One represents the first truly desirable alternative to the Samsung flagship. I hope I can still say that in 6 months.

@Brendan: +1 from me too. Agree with every point in your great summary only feel that they apply even more so given that I am going from S2 to One. I was originally planning on an S4.

I had come to pretty much all the same conclusions particularly regarding battery and SD card issues which were originally of concern. Not so concerned about camera and microphone. I think the plastic v metal and the whole thing around the feel of the unibody are also what have swayed me on the One. And of course the speakers.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I have started to look at the 32GB max capacity positively. It's given me a chance to evaluate the way I store my photos and files in general.

A little slow off the mark but since 2 weeks ago I've started using Dropbox. It is automatically syncing my photos to the cloud without me having to touch a thing. Say, if my phone crashed or was lost, I would at least have a back-up of it. Also, you can view photos offline via Dropbox as well, which negates the debate about always having to be online.

Anyway, I had a dream last night - it was picking up the HTC One - you can tell I am desperately needing help. Reality is gonna be here tomorrow! :)

I went in store yesterday to ask about the One. THey said that it is marked to release on 7th and I cant really pick mine up - i had ordered it for delivery. Which sucks cz now I am going out of the country till Sunday.

So i dont expect it to be in my hands until Monday - unless by some miracle they have it delivered to me by tomorrow!!

I ended up buying the Samsung Note 8.0 while I was in Noel Leeming - it was 15% off at the St Lukes store - ended up at $509 which actually is less than how much it is retailing for in USA.
