could you try with this wallpaper?

http://i50.tinypic.com/33v2idw.png

just use it as a lockscreen (as it appears when setting, do not move around) bump up brightness to 100 and check. Lock screen should be default one with clock & Shortcuts. Ripple ticked.

Then same thing for homescreen. See the difference!

Thanks.

Hopefully you will see what I mean here!!!

Would Like to get hold of the TecTiles, apparently they are small NFC's that you can stick on a surface and then there is an Samsung OEM app that allows you to program functions when the phone connects to it, an example is attach one to your cars handsfree cradle or dash, put you phone in and have the phone automatically turn on bluetooth - drivemode - landscape and whatever else you want it to do ( say turn on maps ) or have one beside your bed table and when you place it there - phone goes into silent - push email off and say set your alarm.

The comments i've seen said that they're a bit pricey and it's possible to buy cheaper ones that do the exact same thing, and there are a few apps around that let you program them. You can also get NFC keyrings, wrist bands, etc as well as the stickers.  See:

http://rapidnfc.com/
http://buynfcstickers.com/
http://www.buynfctags.com

and there are others.

ajobbins: I got a new memory card to boost the storage on my SIII. What is the best way to set it up so the phone can use the storage? What is the default?

Default is ExFAT, just go with that on stock ROM

Reproduced your wallpaper problem. Only seems to be when ripple is on in my case though. Turned ripple off and white spots disappeared.

Hi all,

Just thought some people might like to know how to do this - if your network doesn't support fast dormancy then your S3 battery life will be reduced because of network related wake locks. This affects all Telecom users who didn't purchase their phone from Telecom. Unfortunately unlike earlier Galaxy devices it is not easy to disable fast dormancy, but fortunately lokhor from our very own Geekzone has worked out how to do it (Root required folks).

Check out his guide here: http://www.androidnz.net/2012/06/at-your-own-risk-how-to-disable-fast.html

Hmmm... I have excellent battery life on the Telecom network with two phones purchased via JB HiFi.

I had a light day yesterday and after 16hrs I still had 67% battery life left, if that isn't decent for a phone this size I don't know what is.

Are you sure it is blanket for all Telecom users with phones not purchased from Telecom?

Yes it will affect all Telecom users with phones not purchases from Telecom. If you want to see whether it affects you then get the BetterBatteryStats application linked to in the guide.

Sorry, but I'm having trouble getting my head around this.

What exactly is bad battery life in terms of real world hours of use...You might say "it depends"...well then I'm not sure how to react to being told it affects all Telecom users, because you can't tell me what you mean.....exactly.

So, how much is this error costing me?

Correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation.

It doesn't affect all Telecom users, just people using non Telecom Galaxy S3s on Telecom's network. It really does depend on a person's usage as it is highly dependent on signal strength and how long your device is on cell standby for. There is also no easy way to measure how much battery life a wakelock such as this would drain your device.

If you don't feel that you are affected then don't worry about it. If you are interested in Fast Dormancy then check out BetterBatteryStats and see if secril_fd-interface is causing a large number of Kernel Wakelocks or not. A wakelock is Android's method of allowing applications and services to wake the device up from the power saving deep sleep mode to perform functions.

I'm still fiddling around with different modems, trying to find which one works the best for battery drain as well as data speeds so not in a good position to judge this. I am also still using Light Flow which causes an absurdly high number of wakelocks and means I usually only get ~4hrs screen time and 15hrs standby before my phone dies.
