kiwitrc: On the topic of Notes, I was in Hong Kong last week and I was amazed at how many Notes were being used. It seemed that every guy there had a Note and every female had an iPhone. I always look to see what phones people are using and I don't recall seeing another phone (apart from dumbphones in Taxis)

I think the Notes are popular because most people in Hong Kong spend a lot of time on public transport and mobile data is cheap.

It is not unusual for them to spend around or more than 90 mins to get to work, and another 90 mins going home.  So they have lots of time to kill.  Mobile data costs appx. NZ$40 for 5GB a month for people on SIM only plans (i.e. not having a subsidised phone).

Their data plans used to be unlimited.  However, too many people used too much data watching videos so all the telcos set a 5GB limit.  Some telcos has higher caps if you pay more.

BigHammer:
lokhor: I heard a rumor that for $1199 from Telecom you get the Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear

Probably doesn't help that on the Note 3 pre-order pages they have a section labeled "Pre-order the Samsung Galaxy Gear on its own" and then lists the colour options, price and links to order one, which almost has you believing the price at the top of the page could be for the Note 3 AND the Gear!

I want to read into it as being a combo deal :p. Dropping nearly $500 on the gear would definitely be a deal breaker for me, it's a device you probably need to use to ascertain if you would use it.... If that makes sense? And at that price it's too bigger risk

If I've ordered a GN3 off clove & it's come to over $1000 NZD, do I as an individual need a client code?

There goes that idea..

Seems like Samsung have put region locks at the SIM level. If you insert a sim which isn't from the region the phone is meant to be used in, you are unable to access calls (cept emergency), text or data..

That would make the device unusable if you travel the globe and use local SIMs as you go. Interesting.

ETA: On one hand I can see where their logic might be. Thankfully it doesn't cost nearly as much to roam now.

And it's not available for purchase outright, only on a plan!? So I'm going to have to pay $39/month instead of $19/month with the only beneficial difference being an extra 500MB of data? Blah.

I know it pales into insignificance against the cost of the device, but it's the principal of the thing.

Am I just missing something?

Edit: Looks like an October 10th launch according to this comment on the order page:

Your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will be delivered 3-5 days from the 10 October 2013.

I have gone off Samsung kit, their touch wiz interface irritates me.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I hope ours aren't locked or that could be a deal breaker for me.

Will have to wait and see.

Eh, the restriction sucks, but someone on XDA-dev will release a fix for it inside a week of release, I'm sure, lol.

After all, it's almost sure to be a software or at worst firmware-based restriction, no way they're doing it hardware-level or they could never add new carriers to the allow list.

I wouldn't even be surprised if it's just a scare label to try and discourage parallel import sales by making people go "AAAH IT WON'T WORK HERE".

It's still a ridiculous restriction to impose, though, and I really hope they reconsider.

Such a dumb move. So Samsung expects people to own a few Note 3s just to use local SIMs overseas? Fail.
