Technofreak: For those of you that don't think Nokoia will sell an Android phone, they are effectively already doing that.

Google Vertu.

Vertu was set up by Nokia as a high price custom case mobile phone product.  Nokia sold Vertu but still make the phones for Vertu.

The lastest Vertu phones run Android.

Vertu was offloaded years ago. It's not a Nokia property anymore.

Now, the Wall Street is on the rumours too.

Yes, I knew that, but one item I read said that Nokia were still going to make the phones for Vertu.

more info on Normandy which seems to show its real but who knows.

Not long o wait till MWC so should know one way or the other by end of month. If that price of $100US is an indication I'd be keen to have a second phone.

More here too http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/nokia-goes-green-to-green-light-android-phone-50013390/?s_cid=64

Certainly plenty of speculation about the web. Looks like we will know something on the 25th (well probably 26th our time).

What will interest me, if it indeed does come to light, is what market share a Nokia Android phone can grab?

well my opinion is that given it seems to be aimed at lower end of market it will be pretty good. I think the name will give it imediate uptake, whether it continues will be another thing.

well thats if they even release it but if it is as rumored and doesn't have to have google license I'm thinking it won't annoy MS at all, it may even have their blessing as they can infiltrate the android market but with MS influence

Your point being?

It looks like the Normandy will have the likes of Here Maps and other apps that the Asha doesn't have.  I see the Normandy taking aim at the low end WP market, and if successful there moving into the higher end as well.

Nokia launch the Nokia X and X+ based on Android open source at MWC in Spain today.

As per the rumors it has replaced a reliance on Google apps to MS.

The X+ has an ext SD card which is good and the phone itself looks very nice, 4" screen

The home screen looks like the WP interface which isn't surprising.

Be interesting to see the price.

edit: just announced the Nokia XL with a 5" screen that really surprises me

And just like that, Nokia X (as well as Nokia Asha and S40) are now no longer...

And pretty much all of the innovation that the 12,000 ex Nokia staff were good at.

The Meego based N9 outsold WP when it was released and even then it wasn't released in many of Nokia's traditionally strong markets.

It's a real shame the Nokia X series has suffered the same fate as the N9. Were the Android versions also overshadowing the WP phones so far as market share was concerned?  It's hard to believe Microsoft would launch a product and kill it so soon.

How long will it be before Microsoft doesn't have a handset division?

Whereas the hardware business of phones within Nokia was an end unto itself, within Microsoft all our devices are intended to embody the finest of Microsoft’s digital work and digital life experiences, while accruing value to Microsoft’s overall strategy.
