Hey folks,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - have just been advised that, due to production delays, the Xperia Z2 will launch in NZ in May instead of April. Will provide more info around the local launch when it's available.

Well I am now reading rumours of possible extended delays. Doesn't look like they can manage the stocks so there won't be any big release just on going shortages. Could be months down the track until resolved so as much as I want a Z2 I don't want to wait that long.

Hoping there are some decent updates so fingers crossed I will still be buying one.

No mention of how long the delays will be for NZ, but they are talking 5-7 months in the UK, Hong Kong & US.

Was hoping to upgrade my S3, with the options being the S5 or the Z2......guess Sony has made up my mind for me now.

In this day and age that's unacceptable. Global demand for Smartphones are increasing and people are upgrading a lot more frequently. Yet still manufacturers get caught with their pants down.

X2 off the list.

The Z2 has just gone on sale at one of NZ's more reliable importers (Expert Infotech) at just over $1200 which seems a bit steep. Especially if, like the VF representative said earlier in this thread, it is coming to VF at $1049. Expert Infotech say they have stock, and they're usually reliable. I live not far from them so I would buy in-store anyway if I was going to.

I'm tempted by the import option because of my annoying early-adopter mentality, but I would love to hear some more news from Vodafone in regard to pre-order bonuses, price updates or release date updates. I would love to know if it is worth my time waiting for the official NZ release.

I'm using an awful, old Sony Ericsson X10 in between Sony Z phones, and it really is making the decision to wait for the local release hard.

At this stage, I believe the Z2 is still set for local launch at the tail end of May.

Looks like there's some global supply issues as with the M8. I'd speculate that the NZ market supply is, unfortunately, not a huge priority. It is a stellar piece of kit, though! The screen is particularly impressive.

Thanks for the reply, NikT. It's nice to know the date hasn't changed, especially with all these rumours swirling around. Still, the tail end of May is still a month away so we'll see how I hold out!

Its only good if it is released and then Sony wants to upgrade their flagship device every 6 months. So if the phone is not released for 3 or 4 out of those 6 months it is not going to win many people over from other brands.
