My dad used to run a wholesale company in Shanghai and I can tell you this is total BS.

Times have changed.

That was only 2 years ago, he sold the company and the structure is still the same.

A lot of privately owned companies are mum-pop shops like NZ, they won't even be able to afford to hire someone for a "oversight department".

Unless you are referring to taxation as "government oversight"

I would change the subject to "Can we trust any phone company?"

Apple sued over alleged sale of iTunes data.

I said before - first party, OS manufacturer, third party. You don't know anything going behind the scenes.

That is a very simplistic view which I believe is based mainly on propaganda.

Note I am not vested in Huawei at all.

I am not employed by Huawei.

I do not buy Huawei products.

I do not particularly like Huawei for numerous reasons.

But your wife was employed by them and had shares with them , so you likely have some bias.

The chinese government confiscated Anbang!  That is not propaganda, rather a fact. And, not the only company either.

I think you just don't understand communism.

Name a communist government that has treated their citizens well.  Socialism simply does not work, because greed corrupts every single person who gets into power .

Are you saying that human rights and property right abuses in china are merely propaganda?

Would you prefer a socialist or democratic government? Under socialism, you can kiss your human rights goodbye. Ask the Venezuelans.

Anbang's chairman was convicted of fraud and embezzlement and the company is on the verge of collapse which being an insurance company is going to harm policy holders. So instead of letting it collapse the state (or more precisely China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission) took over the day to day operation temporarily. And it is expected the company will be allowed to operate once again independently on 22 Feb 2020.

Not saying China doesn't have it share of problems but come on do some research before spewing "communism is evil and everything China does is wrong"

The biggest problem is that the type of person too cheap to upgrade their antique is also the sort of person chasing down the free wifi at places, never removing those SSIDs from their phone once done using it etc.

No, the biggest problem is 'new' phones & tabs being sold with old versions of Android , and ,
New Android phones & Tablets that will NEVER receive any updates or patches, or only for a year. Of had a few of those , its not just the cheapies.
