I said last time, that the Note 10+ was at my breaking point for value, and I am seriously unimpressed at the continual milking of consumers over these flagships. My Note 10+ is meeting my needs, and with the exception of potentially a higher refresh rate, I don't see much compelling about the 20 series.

Anyone ordered from the education store before? Guessing its identical to the normal online store and you don't get any less accessories due to getting it so cheaply? Should be identical right?

Yes same phone, you even get to pick the telco (i use to have access to the business partner portal) which would give me the same discounts (just no extras).  Ordered a tab s6 and had it in a couple of days.

I am heading towards preordering the Ultra this morning.  Some bits of info I have found out.

To get the $200 off on 2 degrees you can't be on an existing plan.  I converted to prepaid yesterday due to this.  It basically means I loose my rollover data and have to set up my data sharing again.  Doable for $200.

A lot of the value of this is in the speaker as I was after a new set to due to my mid life rebirth as a PsyTrance DJ.  I was heading towards a pair of Sony XB43s (already have the XB40) but the hyperboom is a bigger and better speaker.  Downsides are the lack of LDAC on the hyperboom and I wonder if the hyperboom is any good on the high end.

Anyhow the XB43 was on sale at Amazon yesterday so I ordered one.  The current plan is to do side by side comparison between the two and buy a second one of whatever is better.  I am potentially looking at purchasing another hyperboom (at 50% of retail) if anyone wants to pass theirs on.

Buds I am keen on as the previous ones have been great.

I can live with gimped performance but if anyone has info on the performance of the battery life on the Eyxnos model then let me know.  If I spend 2k on a phone with worse battery life than my note 9 I will be annoyed.

If you use the high refresh rate mode, I would expect it to be worse. I used to get a comfortable 1.5-2 days out of my Note 9, but even though the S20+ has a 500mah bigger battery, with HRR mode its probably a day on average, depending on screen-on time. It may be slightly better with the new 'Adaptive' mode, but I wouldn't expect much. I haven't really tried it on standard refresh for any meaningful amount of time though, as it's REALLY hard to tolerate now.

The extra drain is offset by the Super-Fast 25w charging though; a 30 min. blast is usually enough to get back from ~30% to >80%.

I know its a impossible ask ( because the offering is kind of a gimmick from my perspective ) but if PB tech , instead of giving $1048 free gear , reduced that price as an option tick box on the checkout page , making the 2.3k phone new cost now 1.3k , a heck of a lot more people would jump in .

The real cost to retailers of what they bundle is a hell of a lot less. Those numbers are the full RRP or whatever that they use to maximise how the consumer views the offer.

You could always buy the bundle and sell what you don't want, though expect less than you expect, as plenty of others will be doing the same thing.

I thought about pre ordering through PBTECH but I really can’t be stuffed trying to offload the bundled gear. Went with 2D so will trade in the wife’s phone and she can have my OP8P

I think I am in the market for the buds and maybe the speaker if anyone wants to offload.

I tried and failed to preorder a Note 20 Ultra 5g at PB tech today.  To get the $200 off on 2 degrees you need to be on prepaid so I did that yesterday.

It was already a weak impulse to buy because it's got the gimped chipset and no headphone jack.

When I tried to preorder things started to go wrong:

  • Because the phone is $2300 I need to pay $300 because 2 degrees will only finance 2k.  Ok, no big deal although one easy solution to this would be for them to not sell ridiculously expensive phones...
  • There was some talk that the credit I had on my old pay monthly account would disappear.  I didn't understand why this would be and I am sure it could be sorted out with a hour on the phone to the call center.
  • The credit check came back as conditional.  I have brought three phones off these monkeys and own my own home.  I am not sure why it's now conditional which means I have to set up a auto payment.  Starting to get annoyed at this point.  Salesman said it was because it was a brand new account (because I switched to prepaid yesterday).
  • So I did my normal trick that I use for porn sites, free trials and other dodgy stuff and gave them a zero balance visa pressy card for the auto payment.  I pay my bill every month so I don't know why 2 degrees needs a copy of my credit card.

The zero balance pressy card failed the credit check.  At that point I decided this experience wasn't fun and $2300 was a lot to give to a company who didn't trust me to pay my bill every month.  At this point I told PB tech to cancel and walked out.

So not sure what I will do next.  Options include picking up a second hand Note 10+ from one of you upgrade people or getting over my annoyance and going back for another try at the pre order.  If I buy this phone then I am stuck with it for two years which precludes me buying the Surface Duo or any of the other cool folding phones that are coming out.

$2300 is a lot.  I could buy the latest Tab s7 and then have a grand left over.

Let me know if anyone is upgrading from the Note 10+ or wants to move on the buds live or the speaker.

Don't worry I got the same 'conditional' as well, and I am pretty secure financially so at first I was like what the?! as I was taking it over 12 months with $499 paid upfront + a trade in that is worth $665, so I was paying up a big chunk of the phone before my first bill will turn up but quickly realised its probably a security thing for their end, who knows maybe they have a few people defaulting.

I gave them my card number, no biggie, they'll never need to use it.

Sure, the PB tech guys (who were really good) said as much.  Also because I moved to prepaid and back again it's a new account so new credit history.

It was more the fact that I was having a bad day and a little dubious about spending the big dollars in the first place.  It is a hell of a lot of money.

Does anyone want to sell me a Galaxy Note 10+ and\or some buds live?

I'm 90-95% sure I don't want these so we could work out a deal if your wanting some Bud Live's when I get them

Thanks bro, will PM.

The tale continues because I can't go back on my old plan without doing a credit check and setting up an auto payment.  For sure I could just be less precious and give them my card no but I am a bit annoyed now.

Can anybody recommend another telco?  I shudder at the thought of Spark but may be able to convince myself re Skinny.  They will also get 5g well before 2 degrees so it does make sense to change.  Not that I have a 5g capable note 20 of course.

If anyone in Christchurch gets the hyperboom and is into a bit of speaker testing I would be keen on a listen.

To cheer myself up I ordered two Sony bluetooth speakers from Amazon.  They are the brand new XB43 model.

What's wrong with Spark? Wife and I are with them and have never had a problem.
