I'm running Windows 7 x64 on all of my machines so will I be able to run Kies or will I have to run the Windows 7 XP Mode?

Yep, I'd imagine its going to come with the Froyo firmware, fits timing wise.

BTW, if you guys haven't checked it out Trillian is out in open beta today available from their website (not on the Market until the release candidate is ready). Seems decent so far.

Correct me if I am wrong but XP mode doesn't support USB pass-thru.

Meaning that if you run it on the 64bit win 7 then it won't work on XP mode either.

But as said before by other users, Win7 64bit is supported now anyway.

oh noes!! Clove.co.uk has sold out of the 16GB editions of the Galaxy S (8GB internal + 8GB Card)

More stock due in on 24th August.

Probably for the best, I want to wait to see what the update that is supposed to come out in September does for the phone.
Gives me more time to investigate exchange rates, they might drop so the NZ$ cost will drop below $800 (including shipping)

New GPS fix looks promising - based on pushing the Epic 4Gs GPS files to the phone. If your GPS isn't all you hoped for then perhaps give it a whirl. Details at XDA as per usual...

Sorry I can't give you a link to the site where I got the Kies upgrade - I have it at home and I'm at work and not able to look for it right now. I will put it up tonight if you can't find it. I seem to remember it was a Samsung site out of Singapore??

Thanks, that would be great if you could post a link to the kies upgrade you found, I did check for an update to kies from the menu but it tells me I already have the latest version (v1.5.1.10071_32)

The new version of Kies is 1.5.1.10083 and it was released on 17 Aug. I now can't find the site I got it from but have found this Aussie link that looks like it works:

I can confirm that it works with Win 7 64-bit and I updated my Galaxy S firmware to the 'official' Eclair 2.1-update1, build JM1.

When you google for 1.5.1.10083 you find people all over the place saying how incredibly slow it was to download and that was also my experience on Thurs evening - but the Aussie site might be better (I didn't use that site)

Another thing I noticed was that people were commenting that the 'check for update' function within Kies does not find 10083 for you. Crazy.

Many people on GZ who own a Galaxy S may know all about their phone so maybe this is redundant but I don't feel I do. My version of the GS (from Clove UK) came with a squitty little Getting Started brochure and that was it - i.e. no proper manual.

For what it's worth I just found this:

I haven't had a thorough read yet but a quick look showed me stuff I did not know eg the camera has an automatic panorama mode, and smile recognition, etc. I'm sure I'll find other bits I didn't know.

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Thanks guys and yep - I'm a dumb-a**e. Had another look in the box, which I had put away on about day 2, and there it was. Sort of funny but pathetic too.

Same thing happened to me. I thought it was just me being dumb and not remembering to back up. I can't remember whether Kies mentioned to back up first or is that just taken for granted that you should do it?

Search the market for 'Quadrant', it will be the only result.

Just did mine and got 883, stock.
