Hey can anyone recommend a sms application for sending/receiving that isn't the default android 2.2 app 'Messages' or Handcent? 'Messages' is sllloow, and Handcent, as good as it is, seems to stop remembering sent and received texts as though I've reached a limit it can hold ('Messages' shows all of them though so the messages do exist on the phone)
Any tips for a new application or how to fix Handcent is appreciated! Thanks, Jerry
Chompsms is pretty good.
Customizable to the same extend at handcent and much the same in every aspect except maybe a little smoother running.
Is there anyway to get rid of the awful bubble layout? I want the stock layout. How do you forward a txt? I can't find how to do that on stock or handcent or chomp... And I have also noticed that the LED doesn't change cloour when you select that option.
Oh look at that! Am using chompsms at the moment and long press opens up more options. Can select previousmessages for forwarding too. cheers for that!
nelsonmcewan: The bad news is that it seems to forward the most recent message originating from the long-pressed message's sender.....

Hmmm... I'm using Handcent as well, and I don't get this problem with mine though? I can long-press any particular message (be it one I sent, or one I've received), and I can forward it with no problems.
I'm using the "Android" style layout, if that makes a difference :)
EDIT: Just tried using the "Classic Handcent" bubble settings, and I can foward any SMS I long-press on too :)

Just a quick question about these SM apps (hancent, chompsms etc..)
Main thing that pisses me off about the standard messages app is that i don't get a notification when I leave the app open. So leaving the app open and putting the phone in my pocket means i miss out on heaps of notifications which can get rather annoying...
but everytime i try one of these replacements the "styles" they have just arent as nice (the standard app I'm used to and like, hate that apple "bubble" style) or I spy some ads or something so I have never really given them a go. Not to mention popups like "which app you wanna do this with?" etc.. :/

You can change the theme to android in handcent which isn't bubbles. I don't know about giving notifications when it's open, I'll check and get back to you if no one else does.
And the 'which app to open' the message problem is simply solved by selecting what App you want as the default, then you won't get nagged every time. You can change the defaults in Settings>Applications
I've been using Handcent from the start and have no complaints about it. much better than the stock standard messaging app in my opinion.

Yes you can change the layout to Android in the settings or preferences screen.
The LED doesn't change colour the Desire isn't able. Blue, Green and Orange are it's only options.
Couldn't find that option in Chomp, and the Led would not change from the stock green no matter what I set it too. Have gone back to handcent again and have found options there to do what I want... I'll probe keen chopping and changing lol
Seems a batch had a heat problem where after lots of use they go into a reboot loop. You have to remove the battery for 10 mins or so to get back up again.
I find especially with location-gps sats both selected boy it heats up,problem is there is no where for the heat to be disburshed possibly if one cuts a few pin holes to theback cover may imrove overall capacity
