Huawei4life:
freitasm: I have a non-NZ model (dual SIM), distributed to media for review. The Android 10 update for NZ/AU models will be out later this quarter.

Not if I can help it, I am their worst nightmare, it is total b*ll crud that they are holding it back. Two to three posts a day should get them to rethink their snail pace roll out. And to not advertise a Global release when it was only China. 🤣

Hassling Huawei NZ's social media team won't make them roll it out any faster.

Honestly I'm disappointed it's delayed for NZ as well, had expected it to land in November, but these things don't happen arbitrarily. I am an industry advocate for faster updates in NZ with experience on both sides of the fence, and I'm certain Huawei would have rolled it already had they not hit a significant roadblock of some variety.

Now the telcos have deployed VoLTE, expect everything to be that little bit more painful.

If it really bothers you, you should be able to flash it manually with another region's software using a flash drive and an OTG cable, which requires a full device wipe.

I hear ya, but keeps them on their toes. VoLTE for Huawei is a joke, both Samsung and Apple had theirs enabled from day 1. Given up caring about it now. October security patch, not going to forget that lol

I just switched from 2degrees to Skinny. My Huawei P30 has the 2degrees custom firmware installed. Does anyone know how I can get back to stock firmware?

While I'm on the subject of updates, it seems Huawei releases Android security updates every month for their flagship phones, yet mine isn't offering anything later than October 2019. What's up with that?

I don't think there's a specific 2degrees firmware - what makes you think that? The APNs not automatically filled?

@CitizenErased Are you only trying via OTA (over the air) or using the Huawai update App?

When I originally purchased the phone and popped in my 2degrees SIM card, it asked me if I wanted to install an update from my network provider, which I did. Now under Settings > About Phone, at the very bottom it says "Custom version 2DEGREES.NZ 9.1.0.8(CT)". Under Software Update > Current Version, there's a "Network provider configuration update changelog" which simply says "Important settings and apps have been installed for you." It installed a couple of 2degrees apps, one of which can't be uninstalled. I assume I'm also at the mercy of 2degrees to approve software updates for this phone, whereas if I'd selected "no" at the very beginning and stuck with the generic Huawei firmware, I might receive updates sooner?

I've tried both methods. I also tried entering eRecovery mode, which downloaded the entire 4GB ROM over the air, but after all that hassle the phone remained exactly as it was before.

Does anyone here have a Huawei P30 or P30 Pro with an Android security patch level later than 6 October 2019? According to Huawei's website, they released security updates in November, December and January, so I assume the NZ networks haven't approved these updates for release? This is what I hate about the Android ecosystem.

As for my previous comments on the 2degrees custom firmware, I found a thread discussing this on the XDA Developers forum. Apparently, the first SIM card you pop in your phone will download a custom firmware update for that network and there's no way to change it later, even if you insert a SIM from a different network. Even after a factory reset, you're stuck with that network's bloatware. Lame.

The Huawei Security Bulletin advises that they have both a monthly and a quarterly update program. Near the bottom it states "Certain carriers may only support updates on a quarterly basis" - I suspect that all NZ carriers fall into this category. I'd imagine this means a security update *might* roll out sometime within the next 6 weeks, although I think it's more likely they're concentrating on getting their flavours of Android 10 how they want it for their networks.

Vodafone has pushed out Android 10, some users have it? Anyone here seen it on their device yet?

I have not received it yet and on Vodafone NZ. Usually get them on a Sunday so here is hoping, getting a bit over the wait now. 😂
