I paid $875 for my Telecom HTC One from Noel Leeming, but have to wait for it to arrive on Thursday or Friday.

Telecom Hastings said there is a delay because they are updating Android to 4.2, and adding their bloatware branding.

Vodafone Hastings has stock on hand, but they will not price match.
Vodafone have not contaminated the HTC One with bloatware, and have decided to leave it al-natural.

I'm not defending Telecom here but how do shortcuts to YourTelecom get classed as bloatware?

Ya i havent seen any news of the One going to 4.2 as yet so dont think I would even think about that. Probably the only possibly explanation that seems relevant is that they are trying to block LTE in all the models before shipping.

Surely HTC would be the ones to install the software and do whatever blocks Telecom wants?

I don't think Telecom would take out phones and mod them once they land here?

I'm not defending Telecom here but how do shortcuts to YourTelecom get classed as bloatware?

I'm using 2degrees mobile, and don't want to see any Telecom/Vodafone startup screens when I use the phone. I know the apps can sometimes be deleted.

Yea I was about to say, HTC haven't released a version of Sense running 4.2 yet.

As far as "bloat", I don't even like splash screens or other branding anywhere on the phone. And I'd consider disabling 4G to be "bloat". Good for Vodafone for leaving the units alone.

There are no carrier startup screens with the One. The carrier supplies the customisations to HTC who roll out the updates. Xda users have also confirmed no custom startup screens, just pure HTC.

That's the best news I have heard all day.
Do you know if the carrier customisations can be deleted without rooting the phone?

If I was a betting man, I'd say it's a supply chain issue.

The idea that Telecom has some guy (or lots of guys) sitting at a table unboxing every unit and changing a lead, or installing some software to each unit one at a time just seems crazy to me

Oh there is the music store but that can simply be uninstalled as it's in /data. The shortcuts should be the same but can be hidden in the launcher.
