Pity. I'd imagine they would sell pretty well to people who want a high spec phone but are sick of the ever increasing phone sizes. Someone like me.
The US has always been late to get Sony phones, Sony doesn't think of them as a major market. NZ is always before the US so no worry there.
NikT (Vodafone rep) said in this topic that it would arrive here mid/late May so that's all we have to go by. I don't think the shortages are as bad as stated... a lot of places overseas have them now and even a few NZ importers are showing stock already.
Kopkiwi: Sony doing a real stand up job of killing the buzz around this phone
'Hey Kiwis! Big news, you may have heard about the new Xperia Z2, Sony's 2014 flagship device. We're pleased to announced that you will not be getting this until later in the year, don't know when, so don't ask us!'
It has been frustrating for sure. Sony's official responses on their Facebook pages are along the lines of 'we can't tell you anything at all right now, but we can tell you in a few weeks'. That's assuming people are going to wait a few weeks for information on a release — most probably won't and will defect to one of the rival phones that are already available and by most measures, just as good.
I am so, SO tempted to import this phone but I just want to know what Vodafone are going to offer, if anything. If they tell me today they won't offer anything with the Z2, I'll buy this phone elsewhere straight away.
blakamin: Announced by Vodafone and Optus in Aussie today. No outright price yet.
Not sure about Sony saying it's not going to NZ since Vodafone had a demo model when it was announced... unless they've changed their mind.
Just to clarify, the Z1 Compact is the phone confirmed to be not coming to NZ. For some reason it was brought up in this topic.
The Z2 is definitely coming to NZ later this month.

Pretty sure the Z1 compact is a very rare beast in the southern hemisphere, which is a shame... Edit: Telstra in Oz have the Z1 Compact so I'm guessing the others do too.
