Goddammit, there goes my hopes of the display mode being backported to the S20; the N20U actually uses a different display panel with Variable Refresh Rate tech.
Enjoy your fancy screens N20U owners... 😛

It does, samsung is saying it will save power by limiting the rates depending on what you are doing. This also explains the smaller batteries inside (i.e. 4500 vs 5000) AOD at a very low Hz would be great battery saver (if they can do that).
Hasn't taken long for the reports of the Exynos version being sht again. Superco on the SD version for me.

I'm currently rocking a note 10+ with snap and like it. I am not a gamer on the phone however so this year i am going to get a note 20 ultra form PBtech and see how that goes. I know exynos 990 is sh** compared to SD but will give it a go, would be a different story if i gamed on the phone however.
I am looking forward to the AMD team up with samsung and what comes next year.

Doesnt appear related to gaming but battery performance, overheating at 4.5 hours SOT

Oh do you have a link as this could cancel my pre-order
Also interested to see about this, it would at the very least delay any potential purchase till widespread use confirmed or denied issues with the hardware.
The PB tech sales guys had the S20 ultra equinox and said that they were happy with the battery life.
I have gone off the phone. I could have lived with the equinox thing but having to choose between 1080p and 120hz bites my arse. That and the 2.3k price.
I am in the market for a S20 Ultra 5g if anyone is upgrading.

Take it with a grain of salt I suggest. Let's wait for some reputable YouTubers for their reviews then make the call.
This was the same story for the S20 launch; a lot of it was early, unoptimized firmware that later was fixed. Not great, but not as much of a drama as Reddit would have you believe. (r/android is the embodiment of the storm in the proverbial tea-cup). As heavenlywild said, I'd be waiting for some reputable reviews.
Anecdotally, I have owned my S20+ since March and its never once overheated (not a power user, but 3+ hours SOT a day on average of web browsing/app usage). Battery-wise, I reckon I could get over 6 hours SOT in 120hz mode if I really pushed it full charge-to-death, and potentially 50% more if I used 60hz mode. I could only hope it's going to be better on the N20U with the implementation of VRR.
However, if you don't absolutely need a phone, or are upgrading at least bi-yearly, I'd wouldn't go out of my way to buy this generation; the Exynos SoC this year was a bit more of a dud then usual. Better luck next year, maybe.

The more I read, the more I am in a similar boat. If I switch from a Note, then I lose the pen no matter what I do. I don't use it a lot, but it's very very handy when I want it. If I go away from the Note, then I'd probably head away from Samsung, though I am anxious
about that, as despite having an excellent time with the LG v10/v20+ (in my opinion one of the best phones made), my wifes LG 40 hasn't been very "compatible" and she has issues with Bluetooth, Android Auto in her car, and other minor annoyances. I'd pay at least a couple of hundred not to have to deal with the uncertainty, though in my opinion many other manufacturers have similarly good or even better *hardware* now.
I recently had an extended test drive with an oneplus device which had a high refresh screen and to be honest, it's not something I noticed particularly, even though I do game on my phone.
I don't care one iota for 5G and wouldn't pay a cent extra for it.
restecp: Currently have a note20 and note20 ultra (SIM in the ultra 5G)
Compared to my S20 ultra:
1. Camera is way better. Faster focus and just generally more pleased with the images.
2. Wireless DeX is dope!
3. Feels way better in hand than my S20 Ultra ever did.
4. Battery life is similar on this compared to the S20 ultra.
5. So happy to be back with the S-Pen.
I truthfully think what matters is how the device performs for everyday use. I'm a huge fan of this device and definitely think once people get it in hand its a no brainier.
The S20 ultra was nice but there is always something magical about a Note
How do you have a device which isn't out yet?
