The Ultra runs nicely but I have to mention that despite all the cooling technology described in the press release, it got pretty hot when doing the set up and installing/updating/copying apps and photos from my Galaxy Fold. Other than that, pretty cool during normal usage.

And before you ask, no, I am not keeping it. Samsung wants it back in a couple of weeks.

Woooow, that's a hefty chunk of change right there. Think I'll be holding onto my S21 Ultra until it dies, unless of course my powerball win comes through this weekend 😂

Is nobody else disappointed by the inclusion of the Exynos processor in the S24/S24+ models? Or are you all getting the S24 Ultra which has the SnapDragon? I've only seen one mention of it in this thread so far.

So I assume that none of the AI features will be available on the S24 or S24+ due to the use of Exynos? If so, doesn't this mark the most significant differentiation between the models, given previously it wasn't so much about features as opposed to performance?

Nah, @maoriboy, your job is to upgrade this year and next, thereby setting up the ability for me to purchase your S24U this time in 2025!

I'm in the same boat - my S21U's going fine, and I'll find it difficult to justify at this point upgrading full stop, let alone to a brand new phone. I've moved to buying s/h from both a financial and environmental angle, and have to say what I've seen thus far of the S4U does suggest I'll be ready to pick one up s/h when people start moving to the S25.

Samsung are trying hard to hide the fact on their website - even when you look at the specs of the S24, you can't tell that it's an Exynos, it just refers to it as "Deca core" as opposed to "Octa core". You have to dive into the comparison table with the S24 Ultra to finally see the difference.

Not an issue for me since I always go for the big boy.

I'm patiently waiting to see the 3D Mark Wild Life Stress Test benchmark on the S24 Ultra, curious at how many minutes in the phone will thermal throttle.

All the AI features are listed for all 3 models as far as I can see.

As someone who doesn't really understand this stuff, what does Exynos miss that Snapdragon has?

Got plans to buy it after words or will you go back to the fold?

I would've gotten the S24+ but not if it uses exynos. Damn shame. Ultra is too bulky for me.

It's hard to know for sure, but in the past the Exynos chips have always performed poorly compared to the equivalent SnapDragons. Detailed benchmarks will prove this over time, though.

The fact that Samsung want the SnapDragon in the Ultra appears to prove that it will perform better than their own Exynos chips.

Also worth noting that the current S23 has the same SnapDragon Gen 2 chip that the S23 Ultra has.

They also probably just wanna entice everyone to getting the Ultra. If Exynos was on par then they'd be fine using it on their Ultra editions.

My S21+ has a snapdragon in it too.

Thanks for that. I'm looking at potentially the S24+ as the Ultra is probably a little out of reach pricewise. Having been happy with my S10 up until dropping it just before Xmas, and now being stuck with the bottom of the range A05 since then, I'm sure it would still be a noticeable upgrade for me!

S24 Ultra 512GB comes to $1345 in EPP program after trading in S22 Ultra 256GB, tempted to go for it. Waiting for approval from the boss of the house.

From memory, the S10 range had the Exynos processor here in NZ. I had the S10e for a long time (almost 3 years) and loved it, but towards the end it felt slow and the battery wasn't doing well. Then I got the S22 with a SnapDragon CPU but hated it. The battery life was terrible which was my main complaint. So I upgraded to S23 as soon as I could, and the difference was amazing. Battery life improved to the point where I could get 1.5 to 2 days use out of it, whereas the S22 could barely last a day. So coming from the S23, the S24 looks like a bit of a downgrade in some respects. But if you're coming from anything older than that, the CPU type probably doesn't matter, and it will feel like a big upgrade.
